Crowd's at American Sporting Fixtures. A Question.
Big fan of American Football and whilst watching it I've noticed that there doesn't seem to be any fan segregation. Is this the norm in all sports or just football? Being a 'soccer' fan this is an alien concept to me! We have been segregated for years. I'm talking cages, police dogs, police horses, police escort to stadium, stewards and CCTV. Especially if you go to an away game. If there wasn't and fans of two teams were allowed to mix I believe a few scenes from Braveheart would be re-enacted. It is the tribal mentality of British football. I'm not saying this is true for every fan and every team but it is just accepted now.
Is there any trouble between rival teams fans? Any fans notorious for being dicks? Does it differ across all sports?
Also I'm intrigued on how fans watch a game. Obvisouly they support their team with passion and I've seen how loud it gets on crucial plays. Over here we have certain chants and ditty's that get aired and you try and out chant the other team's fans to show that you are somehow 'better'. It almost becomes more important than the match itself. 'We got beat but thier fans were fucking quiet, we sang our hearts out'. Examples are 'Your support is fucking shit' 'Shall we sing a song for you' 'We can see you sneaking out ' 3-0 and you still don't sing' etc etc. Also alot of hatred directed to the players, not just boo's but verbal attacks on weight, apperance, sexuality etc. Racism still exists as well.

Can you drink at a NFL match whilst in your seat? Here you would get a banning order!
Sorry bout the length and all the questions but I believe it to be a very interesting and intriguing difference of culture!

Unlike European soccer fans, Americans are generally able to sit together and enjoy an event without acting sub-human. Not to say there aren't assholes, and classless fans, but for the most part aside from a little harmless shit-talking, people sit amongst eachother.DoubleVodkas wrote:Is there any trouble between rival teams fans? No, we don't sing songs to try to one-up the other team's fans. Also I'm intrigued on how fans watch a game. You can drink in your seat at any sporting event but I know at least baseball has a point where they stop selling alcohol during a game, however that's more so that people sober up for the drive home than anything else. Can you drink at a NFL match whilst in your seat? Americans love football, and sports in general. We just don't take it as seriously as they do over the pond.

Isn't the trouble at American sporting events usually at the college level? If there is any at all, that is.
Also, don't forget, Doublevodkas, Liverpool and Everton fans used to sit together at matches. Do they still do that? I'm not sure anymore. In rugby league fans used to mix. I'm sure they still do.

Aye, fans in both codes of rugby sit together. It just seems to be in football that the problem lies. Probably got something to do with regional identity, working class frustration and lots and lots of alcohol.

I don't remember any segregation the few times I went to Old Trafford cricket ground to watch Lancashire either.
Also, going to both Goodison and Maine Road as a United fan back in the day, I don't remember any police escorts.

Most fans are segregated by the sky high price of tickets!

I hear that a lot but I haven't had many encounters with Eagles fans. I'm sure I will run into a few when they play here this year.doghead2009 wrote:Philadelphia Eagle fans are the closest to being ANIMALS.
