We used to have an ECHL team called the Pensacola Ice Pilots for 12 seasons, until hurricane Ivan and an asshole owner doomed us.

Now we have the Ice Flyers, owned by ex NHL player Tim KERR, and they play in the SPHL. Iguess is like A ball in baseball, where the ECHL is AA ball. Still fun to watch live though.
Anybody else?

I follow the Providence Bruins casually. Mostly just the top performers. It looks like I'm going to the AHL Winter Classic in Hartford between the P Bruins and Hartford Whale. The game will break the AHL attendance record.

Wish I lived closer to an AHL team. I grew up near Rochester and t he Amerks haven't won one since 1996.

Hershey Bears are bad ass. You have to fight the entire town for tickets though. A lot of love in that town for that team.

I think Minor League Hockey is more popular in Ohio than the NHL. Until the Blue Jackets starting playing like they belong in the NHL, it will probably remain that way. Throw in NHL pricing, and it's no wonder hockey does so well in all of Ohio's "other" cities.

I watch the Chicago Wolves all the time. The team is always competitive, the ticket and food prices are good, and my daughter loves to go to the Allstate Arena with me.

It was the massive (by ECHL standards) success of the Columbus Chill that landed Columbus a state of the art arena downtown and a NHL team. I do believe the Chills 83 game sell out streak is still a minor league hockey record. A few years later, despite the losing ways of the CBJ, tix were still far overpriced and very hard to land. So, some investors tried to put a UHL team at the Fairgrounds Coliseum in 2004. They figured the former home of the Chill, combined with ultra cheap tickets and concessions would draw families that couldn't afford the NHL. The Columbus Stars. Turned out to be a total flop. Within a few weeks players pay checks were already bouncing.

I used to love going to Aeros games back in the day.

The Portland Winterhawks (Blackhawks affiliate) are having an amazing season this year. Not sure how attendance is, but they are a lot of fun and worth the price.

I used to go to Philadelphia Phantoms games when they played at the Spectrum, Flyers tickets were too much. Also Atlantic City had an ECHL team called the Boardwalk Bullies that played there for a while before relocating to California.

I lived in Syracuse NY the first season that the Crunch played, it was a lot of fun. People said hockey wouldn't last in that town, but they are over 15 years now and going strong.

Had them here for 14 seasons starting in '91-'92.Came one period away from the Calder Cup in the first year but it wasn't to be.We had some good teams over the next few years but the early successes were never matched again.Once the other teams in Atlantic Canada moved elsewhere the writing was on the wall for the Leafs.This,coupled with the fans' perceived lack of interest from Toronto (mediocre to terrible teams,not improving the decent teams leading up to playoff time,etc.) led to dwindling attendance and they pulled out after the '04-'05 season.Still miss 'em a lot.

There's an AHL team in San Antonio (Rampage? I think), and a lower level team in Austin, I grew up in Houston, though.

Went to a few Cincinnati Cyclones and Cincinnati Mighty Ducks (no longer in existence) games as a kid. Always had to go whenever my mom's hockey-loving godfather (R.I.P.) was in town... had a great time every time.

Evidently the Cyclones won it all last year; that's cool. Been years since I've been in Cincy, though.

I used to go to Kalamazoo Wings games all the time when I lived in Michigan. Helluva lot of fun, and cheap as hell! I miss it.

I used to follow juinor hockey a ton as a kid, I still follow the WHL. The team in town is the Blazers, and they used to be a powerhouse and had an amazing fanbase, lots of hardcore fans still. But as a young man you would always try to fight the blazers if you ran into them at a party. Had a run in a couple times, just had that canadian hockey player shit dont stink adittude. Punched one at my grad party

Listened to every memorial cup game over my clock radio as a kid

The lower mainland has the flame's AHL team and its silly, team does horrible

Used to go to the Philadelphia Phantoms games when they were still based in Philly. Saw 'em win The Calder Cup a in 2005. Good times.

Well we had a violent one in the hangar in Pensacola tonight as the Flyers and mississippi surge battle for first. Got to love an owner in Biloxi naming his team the Surge after an 8 foot surge of water destroyed the whole town during hurricane katrina.

a) they are a junior team not a minor league team. everyone is under 21.

b) they're in the whl. seeing that you follow the league, you should know this.
