NASCAR - Saturdays Cheapen Sundays

For the last ten years or so, I've been meaning to get into NASCAR, the rules, and all that goes with a sport that seems so popular.
What I don't understand is, why is there a need for these guys that spend 4 hours in a car to race twice in a weekend, back-to-back days? Are there not enough drivers? I just don't get why that can't focus on one race and give all of their attention and energy to that. It seems to me that it would take away from concentration and also lead to exhausted drivers come Sunday.
Not that it's the same exactly, but once-a-week NFL players aren't scrimmaging on Saturdays. It seems to me that many different outcomes of a Saturday race could negatively influence the main race on Sunday.

It's been going on for a while, but back in the day, Cup drivers were doing it on their own dime, with their own teams. And they never ran the full schedule. These days, you've got guys like Jack Roush, Richard Childress, and Joe Gibbs fielding fulltime Nationwide teams for their Cup stars. Hell, the past five Busch/Nationwide champions have been full time Cup drivers. It's like the Yankees competing for the AAA title. Now they've changed the rules so they can't run for the championship, but they'll still be there to take all the wins.
Just another case of NASCAR taking something that was a pretty good thing, and finding a way to screw it up. I used to watch this stuff every week. Now I barely care anymore.

Most of em do it to get practice for the sunday race if it's a companion event..alot of those guys like kyle busch like racing 24/7

True, but back when guys like Dale Earnhardt and Darrell Waltrip were doing it, their equipment wasn't much better than the full time Busch guys they were running against. Nowadays these guys are bringing guns to knife fights. No way the few stand alone Nationwide teams that are left can compete with the Cup superteams. That makes racing 24/7 a helluva lot easier for Cup guys.

Agreed 100%..I wish Cup guys wouldnt run the NW races but then the stands would be almost empty

I enjoy the nationwide races. They have to let the cup drivers in the nw series to increase ratings and put butts in the seats.

I've been watching NASCAR since the days of Petty, Pearson, Yarborough, and the Allison brothers. I love the Winston/Nextel/Sprint series.
But Busch/Grand National/Nationwide and the truck races are purely minor league compared to the Cup races. The equipment isn't the same and a good deal of the drivers aren't that great and will never see the Sprint series. It's fun to watch in it's own way but it just doesn't have the appeal of the Cup races.
That being said I don't like seeing big league drivers racing in the Nationwide series. Let the minor leaguers develop against other drivers of the same skill level and don't take away from their opportunity to win a championship. It's ok to let a Nationwide driver run a limited schedule in Sprint Cup in order to try to get a full-time ride, but once they run a full Sprint schedule they shouldn't be allowed to race any Nationwide races.

The truck series is bar far the most entertaining of the three.
