BSO arrests Miami Dolphins Brandon Marshall’s wife after he was stabbed

The wife of Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall was arrested Friday night for allegedly stabbing him in the gut, adding another violent episode to an already-troubled player’s life.

Marshall spent Friday and early Saturday morning in the intensive care unit of a South Florida hospital after being stabbed, sources told the Miami Herald.

According to a BSO report Michi Nogami-Marshall, Marshall's wife, "armed herself with a kitchen knife" and stabbed him in the abdomen. But Marshall, 27, gave police a different version of events, claiming he slipped on broken glass.

"The victim provided sworn testimony advising that he slipped and fell onto a broken glass vase," the report states. "However, the area where the vase was broken indicated no blood within the immediate area to substantiate his claim.”

Nogami-Marshall admitted stabbing her husband of a year and a half, according to the report.

"She stated she stabbed the victim out of self defense," the report states.

Nogami-Marshall was arrested and booked on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in a domestic dispute, according to Broward Sheriff’s Office inmate records. Nogami-Marshall was arrested by BSO deputies at 7:40 p.m. Friday, according to BSO deputies. She remains at the Broward County Main Jail waiting to be released pending a $7,500 bond

The couple were reluctant to give detectives additional details about the altercation, which took place at the couple’s 6-bedroom 7-bath $4 million home. "Both the victim and defendant provided scant information regarding the incident itself," the report said.

BSO spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright said no additional information was available and the “investigation continues.”

According to sources, Marshall was transported by private car to Broward General Hospital, which is one of seven Level 1 trauma units in the state of Florida. It is nearly a 30-minute drive from Marshall’s home in Southwest Ranches.

On Saturday morning, Marshall’s agent, Kennard McGuire, said Marshall is expected to make a full recovery. Details of the situation remain mostly unknown, and McGuire is pleading for privacy at this time.

“This is a very difficult time for Brandon and family,” McGuire said.

Team sources also reiterated that Marshall’s injury is not life-threatening. ESPN, which initially reported the incident, later said Marshall remained in the hospital Saturday morning after undergoing a surgical procedure. The network cited anonymous sources in its report.

The National Football League has advised Dolphins officials that they cannot contact Marshall because of the current league lockout. However, NFL doctors are allowed to consult with Marshall’s private doctor.

"We are aware of the report, and our thoughts are with Brandon at this time,” Dolphins management wrote in a statement. “We will look into the matter, but because we are not allowed to have any contact with any of our players we will refrain from making any further comment."

Marshall, a former player with the Denver Broncos, has a long history of domestic disputes, most involving his ex-girlfriend and high school sweetheart Rasheeda Watley.

On March 27, 2007 he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence charges following an argument with Watley. Those charges were later dismissed, but he was ordered to complete anger management classes. A year later, on March 6, 2008, he was arrested in Atlanta on misdemeanor battery charges involving Watley. Marshall was later acquitted of those charges.

He soon met Nogami, a fellow University of Central Florida alum who majored in psychology. When Marshall married her last offseason, he declared himself a changed man.

"She is turning my life around. I am a very passionate, emotional person, and she is teaching me to channel that,” Marshall said during an April 2010 interview with the Miami Herald. “My life is so much calmer now."

But that tranquility was short-lived. On March 1, 2009 both were arrested and booked on disorderly conduct charges after two officers saw them kicking and punching each other outside Marshall's Atlanta condominium. Disorderly conduct charges were later dismissed.

Marshall inked a $50 million contract with the Dolphins last year, making him the highest paid wide-receiver in NFL History. But his personal troubles followed him to field.

The NFL suspended Marshall for three 2008 games under the league’s personal conduct policy, although no specific reason was given. He appealed, and the penalty was reduced to just one game. In May 2009, he was profiled in ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” where Watley spoke about the couple’s abusive relationships. The 911 tapes and police reports documented his checkered past.

He was arrested in November 2004 and charged with five misdemeanor counts of trespassing, resisting an officer without violence, refusal to obey an officer, disorderly conduct and assault on an officer. The incident occurred in Orange County, Florida, but the charges were eventually dropped.

In, April 2005, he was arrested again in Orange County on a misdemeanor charge of retail or farm theft, but was never prosecuted.

He made headlines in January 2007 when Broncos teammate and friend Darrent Williams was killed in a drive-by shooting by gang members in downtown Denver. The shooting took place after an altercation at a nightclub between the gang members and other patrons, including Marshall.

Still, upon arriving in Miami, Marshall told the Herald that he was ready to leave his past behind.

"I'm trying hard to get past it, but it's hard to do that when everyone keeps bringing it up, dredging up bad memories, " Marshall said at the time. "Those things happened so long ago, they're history. Yes, I've bumped my head in the past. But I learned from it, and I have fixed it. I'm at peace now. I'm on track, and I don't think anyone can derail me."

Marshall’s college teammate and best friend, Mike Sims-Walker, tweeted that Marshall would be “ok and is in good spirits.”

The guy is one of the biggest pieces of shit in sports history. I had heard that the cops in Denver were called to his place 12 times for domestic violence.
