3 years older than me, fucking terrible. I used to watch him all the time when he was with the Aeros in the AHL. Always nice to us too. RIP

I'm from Mpls. and have bumped into him numerous times over the years. I saw a lot of dumbshits try to start shit with him at the clubs just looking for a payday.

RIP Boogieman.

Mc, all big guys get fucked with in bars. 99 % of the time by little guys. I'm sure it was even worse for him.

RIP. Very sad. I know he would catch a lot of shit on talk radio, etc. for being "just a goon", a "poor player", and having "no right to be in the NHL" - it takes a toll on some guys. I really hope there is nothing sordid about his passing. He was just trying to make a buck playing the game he loved. These so called goons were actually scorers in junior and can skate ten times better than any of the "experts" who judge them.

Boogey was born in Saskatoon but was raised and played all of his minor hockey here in Regina. I met him a couple of times, and I can say that all the nice things people are saying about him are the truth. Terrific guy who treated the media and all around him with respect...rare behaviour for a pro athlete. Godspeed Boogey.

I hate that shit. They act like enforcers aren't good hockey players.

Are they better than the other NHL players? No.

Are they better hockey players than 99.9% of everybody else? Yes.

Local radio station had a great story about Boogaard and Fedoruk this morning. Nick Schultz from the Wild was telling it. Fedoruk joing the wild after Boogaard re-arranged his face. When he joined the team he went up to Boogaard and asked him if they could be roommates. They became great friends.

It's amazing the comraderie (sp?) and understanding the enforcers all have with one another.

Concussions can be a bitch. They need to send his brain to that insitute for head trauma. If the helmet technology doesn't improve before my boys are old enough to play they'll participate in neither hockey or football. Too much evidence that is showing the blows to the head lead to dementia and chronic traumatic encepholopothy. Too many hockey/football players dropping dead/going crazy at very young ages.

We don't know this is from concussions. Not that you're not right about concussions fucking shit up. There are a bunch of ex NFLers fucked because of concussions. Not going to blame this on concussions yet though.
I'm not going to tell you how to raise your kids, but what are the chances they make it to a level where concussions are common? With the oversized pads and the size of the players in youth sports, injuries don't happen at the same rate.

And they are donating his brain to science.

Dave Duerson put a shotgun to his chest and killed himself, but first called his family and told them to send his brain to that institute. It came back positive for ECT. Bob Probert had it. The life expectancy of these guys is shrinking.

Here's what we know about ECT. The proteins that cause it are only found in the brains of people who take repeated hits to the head. There's evidence of it in kids as young as their 20s. A kid from the Penn football team had it and he was only 21 when killed himself. If my kid wants to play I'm going to beg him to kick, punt or play receiver or corner as it seems to be worse in the linemen, RBs, QBs middle defensive players.

I think my point was I know people who drink and use painkilles, as I'm sure you and most of us do, and to my knowledge none of the ones I know have had a concussion. He may have been playing with the Devil and lost. More people have died from drugs than from suicide after a concussion at a young age. .

Unhappy accident Heath Ledger style? Entirely possible. Duerson's suicide scared me shitless about football. He always seemed so...normal.
