Congratulations to The Captain - Derek Jeter!
In true Yankees fashion the guy hits a home run for #3000 (with an HBO film crew following him).
Then he went on to hit a few more. Yankees magic continues in The Bronx.

I completely & utterly despise the New York Yankees & everything they've ever done. However, I could not manage for whatever reason to feel that way about Derek Jeter. Instant Hall of Famer for sure.

Most people will agree that Jeter is a class act.
Even the Devil Rays came out of the dugout to applause and high five him.
12 all star games, 5 world championships, 3K++ hits - hec yes he's an instant Hall of Famer!

Thanks for posting.
Like others, I hate the Yankees.
But for a player to do what Jeter has done for one team, and that team being the Yankees, is one classy individual. He's a lucky guy.

Very cool moment to see #2 round the bases in another historic Yankee moment. I would say 46% of men at the stadium were crying tears of joy.

3000 hits is quite an accomplishment.
I heard that the guy that caught Jeter's home run for hit #3000 went to meet him.
When he got there tossed the ball to Jeter, who promptly dropped it.

Not a Yankee fan, but props to Jeter. To get to 3000 hits, all in a Yankee uniform, and to be the first to do that, is a hell of an accomplishment.

In Derek's defense though, his World Series rings got in the way

Yeah, those same rings get in the way when he plays shortstop.
Congrats to Jeter though. That is a hell of an accomplishment.....done without PEDs I might add.

No, he couldn't get to it quick enough and it rolled down the hall.
Seriously, congrats to Jeter. Doing it for one team is impressive -- just ask Robin Yount.

Or Tony Gwynn. Imagine doing it for a team that for the most part sucked ass during his entire career.

You remember the Sox before 2004 and the MFY-esque payroll?

Yup, Yaz played for mostly lousy teams besides '67, '75, '77 & '78.

How is it "true Yankees fashion" when no other Yankee has hit 3000 and only one other player hit a homer for 3000 and he wasn't a Yankee?
Congrats to Jeter.

I frickin' love Derek Jeter and am not ashamed of it. Congrats on #3000, class act all the way. Plus he's a Kalamazoo boy, Local Boy Makes DAMN Good!
Also, big props to the fan who caught it, who ONLY wanted to give him the ball. The Yanks organization rewarded him with 4 suite tix for the remainder of the season, plus a shitload of signed bats, jerseys, balls, etc. Very classy of them to do that. (That's the ONLY nice thing I'll ever say about the MFY!)

he should of got 2999, then get an intentional walk every time for 2 games. Jeter could not get the hit at home. Boston would have done that

The guy knows how to entertain NYC.
Going 5-5 on the day he gets #3000(HOME RUN) and then caps the day with the game winning hit in the bottom of the 8th.
AWESOME!!
About 2 weeks ago Jeter was on the DL and there was talk he would not get the opportunity to hit 3,000 in The Bronx.
Funny how things works out.
Did anybody else read that Jeter hit #3,000 at 2 pm local time-Jeter wears #2......VERY ODD.
Jeter may not be the best shortstop in the game today and he does not have the same range as the best defensive shortstops in the game, but there are many, many teams that would certainly welcome him to start at the 6 hole.

Yeah Jeter rules.
But fuck the Yankees and all their hallowed legends. And yeah, the team and organization is actually a pretty class act I have to admit - unlike say the Cowboys - and I have to admit my hatred is more directed at the entire NY sports media.
I'm an Orioles fan. Yeah, sucks to be me, probably part of the reason I don't give two shits about baseball anymore.
Anyway, I just fucking love how Gherig's streak went from being the greatest record in baseball, a mark that will stand for ALL TIME, and as soon as Cal Ripken Jr - a legend, a great ballplayer - gets the record the New York media is all "It's an overblown attendance record."
They have bitten into Mac, Sosa, and Bonds to protect their long lost records.

I'm obviously in the minority but I've never liked the mother fucker, just seems so arrogant. It's a great accomplishment but that dude is way overrated today, he's handed GG and all stars for what he did years ago, and now of course there is the official derek jeter 3000 hit t-shirts, piggy banks and a 3 hour Blu-ray most likley on the way, Oh how it's gonna be awsome seeing the mouth breathing Yankee fans wearing that faded tore up gear for the next decade.

I read the other day Tim Raines reached base more times than Tony Gwynn. How is that not first ballot hall material?

DiMaggio's 56-game hit streak. No one is breaking that.

Nope.
If you wanna get technical no one has broken Ruth's 60 or Maris' 61. The roid monkeys that did a while back were cheating, so a lot of purists don't recognize it.

If the reg. season is reduced to 154 games, then the records will be that much more difficult to break.
Nobody will pass Pete Rose on the all-time hits list. Not even Jeter.
Nobody will have a hitting streak longer than 56 games. Won't happen!
