Former Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss will announce his retirement from the NFL, Moss's agent told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The 34-year-old Moss played 13 seasons in the NFL, playing for the Vikings (twice), Raiders, Patriots, and Titans during his career.

Patriots fans will of course remember Moss's extraordinary 2007 season, a season in which the lanky wide receiver caught 23 touchdown passes and had 98 catches overall for 1,493 yards in his first year in New England. The Patriots started that 2007 season 18-0 before losing to the Giants in the Super Bowl.

Moss's tenure in Foxborough did not end as spectacularly as it began, the Patriots trading Moss to Minnesota after the first four games of the 2010 season in exchange for a third-round pick

I wish they brought him back here to New England for one more season.

I take it you don't want them to win the Super Bowl this year.

Good. I never seen a guy with so much talent bark and bitch as much as Randy Moss. You put him in tight double coverage and after three misses in his direction he combusts.

Still one of the all time greats, for all his idiocy. Base it on stats and talent and he's first ballot no question, although I expect (and understand why) they'll quite probably make him wait a year or two.

Reports were that there were only 3 organizations that Moss would consider. He did have a 1 year offer with a bunch of incentives from New England but turned it down. The Patriots then brought in Ochocinco, NY got Burress, and Moss got his panties in a wad and retired. He's a front runner - he'll be back if a contender wants him.

He'll be back towards the middle of the season. Basically a socially stunted man-child. Excellent stories here in Minny of his exploits. Still.....it was a thing of beauty watching catch balls in purple all those years.

His HOF speech will be must see TV.
