Greatest games ever - Sport by sport...

Post by demolition23 »

So, what are the greatest games you've ever seen in the sports you follow?

I've only been watching American sports seriously for the last five years or so, so won't submit suggestions on that front, but am keen to hear what y'all think...

And, for my submission, without a doubt the greatest game of rugby I've ever seen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heoO_5MvZ0w

The All Blacks vs Australia, a number of legendary players on each team and hile NZ has historically had the upper-hand over Australia, this was one of their strongest eras.

New Zealand were amazingly up 24-0 after 8 minutes before Australia even more amazingly clawed their way back to take the lead. There was more action in the first half than in most entire games. The lead see-sawed back and forth in the second half and Australia were leading with 2 minutes to go when Jonah Lomu got the ball on the left-wing and won the game for New Zealand.

The next game in the series was almost as good, with Australia slotting a goal to win right on full-time.

NBA - Warriors vs Mavericks Game 6 of the 2007 First Round Playoffs. The fans going apeshit in the entire second half is something you don't see outside of March Madness.

Nice.

Making me excited for the world cup. I guess we'll be the only two interested on this board!

No better stadium in HD than Golden State when they don't suck. Hell they sucked last year and I still love watching that crowd.

Fair enough

I'm a Jets fan though.

But I'm die hard Yankees and Rangers. You can argue with the Yanks. But those were the 2 best Rangers games in recent memory.

When Boom Dizzle had that dunk against the Jazz in the second round, that place got up to 131 decibles. You couldn't hear shit on the TV.

So yeah, the sawx doing well is not a great game to me. The guy was looking for suggestions, etc. There are many, I gave him some recent NY ones.

Anyway, yes I'm a NY sports fan. If you want to be butthurt that I left off the pimple on the ass that is Boston sports so be it.

In fact, do like most Boston fans and go to a Sox/Royals game yet come up with a reason to cry about the Yankees during it. Or maybe go to Pats/Broncos game and whine about the Jets.

The inferiority complex in that town is something to behold. Clearly.

Nobody whines about the New Jersey Jets. If they were any good maybe, but they're not and haven't been in decades.

Hate on Rex and the Jets all you want, fine.

But not good in decades? 2 AFC Championship games in the past 2 years. And they beat the Pats in the playoffs. So WTF are you talking about exactly? And I'll bet money they win the division this year. Jets are a good team.

We can argue/debate sports all day. Just don't act ignorant.

Superbowls. When's the last time they won? Because that's really all that matters. There are no points for second place.

As for 2003, yeah that sucked, but I wanted nothing to do with Florida. I knew they were going to win.

USA hockey team beating USSR in 1980 Olympics. And I'm not even a big hockey fan.

And even though I am a Pats fan, I think the best NFL game I ever watched was Chargers vs. Dolphins in the 1982 playoffs. Chargers won 42-38 in OT and Kellen Winslow basically had to be carried off the field. Dude even blocked a field goal attempt to send the game to OT. Amazing game.

Poor Cleveland. All you have to do is say certain names and they lose their shit. Say the following to anyone from Cleveland and hilarity ensues.

Ernest Byner. Jose Mesa. John Elway. And my favorite...Craig Ehlo.

1994 Western Conference Semifinals Game 7 Houston 115, Phoenix 114

The Rockets came back from a 3-1 deficit to win Game 7 in Phoenix. Mario Elie hits a three pointer with 5 seconds left. Houston becomes the first and only team to come back from both a 2-0 and 3-1 deficit to win a playoff series. They also became the lowest seeded team in NBA history to win the title. Plus everyone got to see Charles Barkley cry.

Cleveland Browns vs. Atlanta Braves

Paul Brown made a 3 point shot and tied it up at 57-98 with 5:45 to go. Within that 5:45 he made another 3 point shot and then a 2 point shot. The Browns made a good effort and in the end, it was enough! They won 65-98. Bernie Kosar slam dunked over Gerald Ford that game.
