Thieves Say They Stole Marijuana From Rays Trio’s Spring Training Home

Back in the spring there was the story about a burglary taking place at the Spring Training home shared by Tampa Bay Rays players Evan Longoria, Reid Brignac and David Price. All told there was approximately $56,000 worth of property taken from the home, the most interesting of which was an AK-47 assault rifle belonging to Longoria.

Until now that is. The suspects charged with the theft, Steven Charles Vaughn and David Kimo Rufino, have come forward to claim that they also took a “Rubbermaid-style container” full of marijuana from the rental home during their break-in. That’s one way to keep it fresh, but I still prefer good old Tupperware for my illegal drugs, what with their patented freshness seal and all.

Needless to say, Major League Baseball is looking into the allegations.

From the St. Petersburg Times…

The claims, based on statements, some secondhand, from the suspects and others questioned in the investigation of the March 26 break-in in Port Charlotte, were contained in the five-page probable cause affidavits released by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday.

In an accompanying statement, the Sheriff’s Office said “no evidence has ever been found and there is no indication the residents of the home were aware of it.”

Longoria said the players were not going to address the issue publicly.

I’m guessing that the cops didn’t find an overabundance of Doritos, Twinkies, and Cap’n Crunch cereal, because that would have been a dead giveaway that the smoke probably belonged to Longoria and the boys.

Being that it was a rental home, I guess it could be within the realm of possibility that the weed was left by a previous tenant.

Although it would explain why Longoria thought it wise to bring an AK-47 to spring training.

Usually a pistol or machete is good enough to protect your ganja. A deadly assault rifle?

Yeah, that must have been some sweet chronic.

So, based on the assumption that the thieves are telling the truth, does the marijuana belong to Longoria, Brignac and Price, or was it unknowingly left there by a previous renter?
