Football question.

I know what intentional grounding is, what I don't understand is what being in or out of the pocket consists of? Is it so many yards one way or the other, a certain distance the ball must travel, or being out of the way forr the o-line to protect you?

Outside of the hash marks. Those little lines.

Also, if you are outside of the hash marks, the pass needs to get back to the line of scrimmage. So the qb can't just throw it Out of bounds to the bench, it at least has to go forward a bit.
