Patriots heartlessly release Tiquan Underwood on the eve of Super Bowl XLVI

Tiquan Underwood, the guy who loved being a Patriot so much that he did that to his hair, was released by the team on Saturday, just hours before the Super Bowl.
It's callous and it's cold-blooded, but that's football, and that's Bill Belichick. I'm sure that Underwood is emotionally devastated, but that's a head coach's job. If he feels like another player might help a little more on Sunday, even if it's just for one play, then it's the coach's job to make that decision. Feelings aren't a part of it.
Underwood probably didn't expect this, but he's no stranger to being released, either. It's the third time the Patriots have cut him this season.
What might make it even harder on the guy is that he didn't do anything wrong. And in an impressive four-tweet barrage following his release, Underwood put it all in perspective
According to the Boston Herald, the move has no disciplinary motive behind it. The Patriots simply wanted another defensive lineman on the roster. Alex Silvestro (ironically, like Underwood, a Rutgers product) is the guy who will take his place. He's been on the Patriots practice squad all season.
Belichick recently spoke glowingly of the Rutgers players on the Patriots roster, Underwood, Silvestro, Nate Jones and Devin McCourty.
Just when you thought these scumbags couldn't get any lower.

This is a non-story, story. It's not like Underwood was even close to a difference maker all year long. No one really cares about this except him and his family and friends. The team won't be phased by this one bit.

Underwood let D-backs undercut his routes. He was a non-factor during his time in New England, even less so than Ochocinco. Belichick decided he needed more depth on defense and a receiver who wouldn't see the field became expendable. It's not an issue.

He's trying to win the Super Bowl. The feelings of some god-fearing scrub are the LEAST of his worries. Nobody is gonna spare Tebow's feelings either when he ends up in the arena league.

If they win doesn't he still technically get a ring though? Or do you have to be on the roster the day of the win?

No ring, for him.
Usually (as a player) you have to be on the SB game day active roster, so "practice squad" players and players on "injured reserve" won't get one either.

If they win he will get a ring. The team gets to decide who gets a ring. People in the front office can get them too if the team pays for them. Kraft is a very generous owner. If there is a ring in the team's future Underwood will get one too.

You're not wrong. I think he's a solid singer who writes great melodies, but due to other reasons people are just rabid about disliking him.

His wins are the first SBs I can remember watching. I went to a party (with the parents, obv.) for the GB/NE one but just ended up hanging with all the kids and watching Star Wars.

Great game, and I was hoping I 'd get a chance to say this.
I guess God was too busy today or just dosent give a rats ass about Tom Brady or his religious nut wife, so tired of people like her pushing their beliefs on me.

Well He is kind of a prick, He's a great coach but with 2 straight SB losses after the spygate debacle, He dosent look like quite the genius everyone was making him out to be and like it or not his legacy will take a hit unless he wins another title. He no longer looks like a guy that belongs in the same breath as Lombardi, Landry or Shula.
