Andrew Luck's Pro Day

Post by poizond13 »

Even though it is a foregone conclusion that Luck will be the #1 pick in the draft, I was looking forward to watching his pro day to see how he would react under the pressure of everyone watching him and expecting the world of him. I was impressed with what I saw. Granted, a good pro day doesn't mean much in terms of predicting the kind of NFL career a player will have. But nonetheless, Luck continued to impress with his throws today. He blew away any concerns about his art strength. His last pass was a 70 yard bomb with dead on accuracy and timing. His footwork and mechanics looked good throughout all his throws.

The parallels between Peyton Manning and Luck continue to amaze me. I am NOT saying Luck is the next Manning. I'm just saying I've never seen two players enter into the league with such similar characteristics and also entering into nearly identical situations. The latest knock on Luck is that his arm strength is not superb. People had the exact same concerns about Peyton in 1998. I remember it clearly. People praised Peyton's decision making, accuracy, and football intelligence, but many thought he lacked the arm it took to become a premier NFL QB. Obviously Peyton proved that theory wrong real quick. I think Luck today did a good job of showing that he does have very good arm strength.

I have no doubt that both Luck and RG3 will be phenomenal players. Both of them have enormous physical talent and mental ability. I don't think you can go wrong with either one, but I think Luck is a better fit for the Colts. I'm looking forward to seeing him with the horseshoe on his helmet and watching him play every Sunday. My only concern for RG3 is that he's going to a pathetic franchise in the Redskins, and that might hold back his development.

Not gonna happen. Luck will be the #1 pick by the Colts, that's already been decided.

I am 100% sure, there is zero doubt in my mind. This decision was made a long time ago. If you knew anything about the NFL, you'd agree.

While I believe that the odds of the Colts selecting Luck are very high, it is the NFL and you just never know what will happen! Case in point, who would have thought Goddell woulda came down as hard as he did on Sean Peyton.....many, including myself, expected 4-6 game suspension max.....alot of people were wrong, including myself!!!

There is a 50-50 chance the Colts will take RG3!! Hell, look how wishy-washy Irsay has been all of 2011-2012, who knows if he has made his mind up!! Time will tell...... Thoughts on Jeff Saturday signing w/ my Green Bay Packers? IF he plays like he has all his career, this could be a great move! Again, time will tell.....
Wrong. There is a much less than 50% chance we will draft RG3. More like .05 percent. Talk to anybody that knows anything about the inner workings of the Colts, and they will tell you, Mr. Irsay has had his sights set on Luck for months. There is no way in hell he's gonna reverse course and go with RG3. Any NFL analyst will tell you the exact same thing. It's a done deal.

Thoughts on Jeff Saturday... it was a good signing. Saturday is a solid, smart center with plenty left in the tank. He will give them 1-2 years of stability at the position.

Have to agree with P-13 (I HATE WHEN I DO THAT)....I actually do have a contact within the Colts org. (Not extremely high up but is/was very close with Peyton and has/had his name mentioned on national TV a few times the last year) and he told me that Irsay made the call to go with Luck 2 weeks before the season was over as long as they landed the number one overall. That he had ZERO interest In RG3.....not exactly earth shattering news I know.

Fucking sucks Peyton couldn't have stayed 2-3 more years and tutored the Luck kid.....would've been HUGE for him to learn from the Greatest for a couple of years. I always be a Colts fan and I'm sure I will be a huge Luck fan, but for the next couple of years, until he is done, I will sit in my usual seat at the Luc with my #18 Broncos jersey on.

Agreed there. It's been a done deal for a long time. I was just thinking today, what a shame it is that Peyton cannot finish his career as a Colt and mentor Luck for a couple years. Imagine that, the greatest QB prospect in the last 30 years learning from the greatest quarterback in NFL history. In the end that idea was just too good to be true.

That's funny because the other day I listened to Mel Kiper Jr say on ESPN that Luck was the best QB prospect since Elway. That would be 1983, 29 years ago. I've also heard/seen many people state that Peyton is the greatest QB of all time. Now that is purely subjective, but given Peyton's stats and accomplishments, anyone COULD make that argument. In fact, many people would agree 100% that he is the greatest. If you disagree, that's fine. But don't say that NOBODY would say what I just wrote, because clearly there are many who have.

Stupid troll.

Didn't Irsay ask during a national TV interview "Who the Hell is Mel Kiper"?

Bill Tobin, when Kiper ragged him for picking Trev Alberts over Trent Dilfer.
