Warren Sapp files for bankruptcy

Seven-time Pro Bowler and NFL Network analyst Warren Sapp filed for bankruptcy in south Florida. According to the AP, he owes more than $6.7 million to creditors and in back child support and alimony.

His average monthly income tops $115,000. Among his assets? A lot of shoes and a lion skin rug.

Sapp's $6.45 million in assets includes 240 pairs of Jordan athletic shoes worth almost $6,500, a $2,250 watch and a lion skin rug worth $1,200. He also reported losing his 2002 Super Bowl ring with the Bucs and his 1991 national championship ring from the University of Miami. (I bet he did.)

Really, who doesn't need 240 pairs of Jordans? And a house isn't a home without a lion skin rug.

As a player, Sapp had 96.5 sacks for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Oakland Raiders. He was outspoken and often angered opponents, including Jerome Bettis and Green Bay Packers' coach Mike Sherman.

The outspoken style has continued through his retirement in his job as an NFL Network analyst. He most recently found himself in hot water after he called Jeremy Shockey a "snitch" in connection with the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal.

According to the bankruptcy filing, his NFL Network contract is up in August.

Is Shockey really planning on doing that?

As far as the original topic goes these stories aren't new but they never fail to amaze me, just how the fuck can you be so stupid.

The inevitable bankruptcy story on Terrell Owens is the one that will bring much laughter to me.

The championship rings missing yea right that mofo sold those fuckers under the table but you need some quick cash you do what you gotta do.

Yup. I have no pity for these morons. I realize they never had two nickels to rub together growing up, and their "university educations" are pretty much shams, but when you're making that much money, how hard is it to either:

A.) Not spend all of it; or
B.) Go to you local bank branch and buy a god damn savings bond, even with a shitty interest rate, and have a few million making you a few thousand.

Safe to say his NFL Network contract will not be renewed this summer. He fucked up big time with the Shockey comment.

Another athlete ends up broke...color me shocked.

When you blow your moolah on tattoos, bling, partying, and your "posse", shit like this tends to happen. Ever notice the first thing these athletes want to cut when they're broke is their child support?

Allen Iverson, Dennis Rodman, and now Warren Sapp. Couldn't happen to a trio of nicer assholes.

It happens to white people too, just so you know. Mark Brunell's hardcore Christian "posse" and all of that partying, bling, and tats have really put him in a financial hole!!!

In his 19 seasons as an NFL quarterback, Mark Brunell, now serving as a backup for the New York Jets, is estimated to have earned $50 million over his career. Unfortunately, at 41 and about to retire from football, Brunell is in dire financial straits.

ActionNewsJax.com reports Brunell, once a three-time Pro Bowler with the Jacksonville Jaguars, is broke. The Jacksonville-based media outlet details his road to bankruptcy, which has featured plenty of bumps related to ill-fated investments.

Mark Brunell, now a backup QB for the Jets, has reportedly blown through his NFL earnings. (AP photo)According to ActionNewsJax.com, Brunell “sunk his fortune” into nine business ventures, including a real estate company and a Whataburger franchise. The latter foray into fast food led to a rapid loss of his entire investment. Through six lawsuits, there are claims of nearly $25 million against Brunell.

The report also shares insight on the plight of Brunell and professional athletes with similar problems in their personal life. To that end, former Packers offensive lineman Ken Ruettgers, a former teammate of Brunell's in Green Bay, who now helps fellow retired players deal with their life after the NFL, offered an alarming statistic.

“It’s something like 78 percent of former NFL players, two years after their last game are either bankrupt, divorced, or unemployed,” Ruettgers told ActionNewsJax.com.

It happens to white people too,
It happens to everyone. People outspend themselves in all colors, professions and income brackets.

Bad business ventures and and Air Jordans aren't exactly the same thing.

Just making the shit political like I always do.

I noticed that the dude singled out black players - noting with particular disdain their posses and bling - and thought it would be interesting to point out that white athletes can be just as stupid. And in the end, stupid is stupid and broke is broke.

At least the black guys did it with some style. Brunell is just a sap.

LOL, pun intended?

I don't think it's a black thing. It's, like you said, a stupid thing.

Yes and yes.

I saw a John Elway interview once where somebody asked him, basically, "what was your dumbest investment."

He paused about 2 seconds and said "a chain of luxury laundromats."
