Crazy. Getting a $75 million loan from a state like Rhode Island is practically like their whole fiscal budget for a year. 388 employees too. It obviously wasn't a very small operation. It sounds like the overhead and payroll just gobbled up the cash as fast as it appeared while trying to get off the ground.

...and some (R.I. politicians) heads are gonna roll for it. I don't know many of the details or politics of it, but I'm sure that when Schilling got picked up by the Red Sox in 2004 specifically, to help win their first world championship in 86 years, he seemed like Midas to many.

When he did just that, along with helping Bush win his re-election in '04, he became a hero's hero to New England and more specifically, to the Republican politicians of New England including then Republican Governor of Rhode Island Donald Carcieri, who approved the loan during his term as Governor.

So far, the fallout from the loan has already led to the resignation of two officials from the Rhode Island economic development agency.

While he was a hell of a pitcher, I guess his ego got the best of him and he thought he could be a tycoon in the video game industry. It seems like he made the company as big as it was, automatically assuming that investors and venture capitalists were gonna be on board with it all in the near future, instead of starting small and properly managing small successes, and building up from there.

He was really gambling hard that something was going to magically save the company, because he didn't lay anybody off until it was time to lay just about EVERYBODY off because he couldn't even pay them their last month's salary. As an owner, these are terrible business management decisions at best.

I read that. It's unfortunate. You gotta love the guy, he spent his playoff career butt fucking the MFY. Except ANYTIME he opens his mouth your reminded what a conservative Christian douche he is. It's a catch 22 really.
