Definitely but unfortunately he had the right to be a diva clause written into his contractSkeletorsGhost wrote:Bret was being a diva.

i sure hope this thing was a"work" if not Bret is dipsh*t, the guy says "he loves the business", but won't do what is best for it.

Re: George the Animal Steel on the Montreal Screw Job
it was a work. i'm a huge fan of bret's going back to the stampede days.
part of the story doesn't make sense.
he didn't want to lose to shawn in canada. didn't want to lose at a pp in montreal.
but he said he'd drop it the next night on raw.
in ottawa.
last time i checked, ottawa was still part of canada.
the old timers all live by the credo,"respect the business". everybody involved disrespected the business with the screwjob. i don't think bret, even with him being his own biggest fan, would dis the biz.

Re: George the Animal Steel on the Montreal Screw Job
According to the Greatest Rivalries DVD, Bret had already fulfilled his contractually obligated dates for the year before the Montreal show as well. He could have legitimately told Vince to get bent and no-showed Survivor Series entirely.

If it were a work then why did it take forever for Bret to work for WWE again. Well after WCW was dead and gone.

Re: George the Animal Steel on the Montreal Screw Job
Always has been something fishy about the whole thing. I know for a fact, just by what Bret and Shawn said in their sit down interview, that they didn't hate one another nearly as much the public was lead to believe. But then again, Shawn Michaels was a gigantic tool back in those days and I'm sure he was pretty hard to deal with. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if he threatened to jump to WCW ANYTIME he didn't get his way.
Either way, Bret went to WCW and made bank while Vince ended up being one of the biggest heels ever.

But it's like 9 / 11. Why would all the people involved keep the secret? Vince Russo and Ed Ferrara who wrote Raw at time have always maintained that it was real. If it was fake somebody would've come clean.

Vince made bank, his heel turn kicked off the Attitude era.silent_eyes wrote:Always has been something fishy about the whole thing. Re: George the Animal Steel on the Montreal Screw Job
False, the attitude era certainly started before. Before Vince's heel turn, you had the original DX with serious attitude, not to mention the Hart Foundation along with Austin/Pillman. Before the screw job, attitude was definitely aroundSkeletorsGhost wrote:Vince made bank, his heel turn kicked off the Attitude era.silent_eyes wrote:Always has been something fishy about the whole thing.
