Re: College Football season has begun!
Im glad its started...but Im anxiously awaiting this seasons end, for it brings us that much closer to the end of the BCS as we know it, and the start of the Playoff System!
Reigning BCS National Champs, The Alabama Crimson Tide have just basically pummeled the Michigan Wolverines into submission...

Re: College Football season has begun!
I can never totally get into it.
I mean, it's still great, but it's not as good as the NFL IMO.
I don't have a team to support which is part of the problem, but beyond that - mismatched schedules, mismatched games, and a whole bunch of QB studs who, for the most part, you know wouldn't be such big men on a leveller playing field like the NFL. A lot of that is unavoidable, but it still makes it impossible for me to rate it more highly than the NFL.
Looking forward to the new playoff system when that comes in though. BCS is about the most ridiculous system in any sport anywhere for picking a champion.

Re: College Football season has begun!
The difference for me, is in college ball, the coach/manager/team owner is not able to go out and spend $100million to build a superstar team. Colleges, regardless of how you feel about their recruiting or whether or not the student-athletes are receiving some sort of pay, have to deal with the students they recruit...they cant just go out in the public and pay $5million for a running back.demolition23 wrote:I can never totally get into it.

Some of these "kids" are ready for the NFL in 2 years or less...just look at Cam Newton. He was built from birth to be a pro quarterback, and in his first year proved it easily. Not every college player is granted, but some definitely are, and they shine well before hitting the big time NFL fields...

How ironic. Like colleges don't pay, and the bigger schools pay more, making the playing field uneven.BodyBagz wrote:The difference for me, is in college ball, the coach/manager/team owner is not able to go out and spend $100million to build a superstar team. College football honks are always trying to convince you money doesn't matter, when it probbly matters more than any other level of sport in America.
Colleg football may be the most corrupt business in America.

Show me where ANY college football player in the last 100 years has ever been paid $5million to play at ANY school...I`ll wait...NeverSurrender wrote:How ironic. Until you do, you can sit here and postulate all you like, but know that you are patently full of shit. Reggie Bush is probably the best known "paid" college player, and not even he or his family were paid anywhere near $1million, let alone $5million. Hell, even Cam Newton`s Dad couldnt pull that much coin for his boy to play...and that was in the fucking SEC...

Re: College Football season has begun!
i think you misunderstood my point.
I don't know of or think any player ever has been paid 5 million dollars.
My point isn't the payers getting paid, it's the rick fucks getting rocher off the backs of the players.
My point was a school lie USC or Bama is paying (all schools are paying something) more than say... Vandy or Wisconsin making the playing field even more unlevel than any NFL f teams are. These schools are just examples.
But hey man, you go on believing money doesn't mean anything in college football. All you have to know about money is how they changed that damn BCS the minute half the country didn't watch their scam of a championship last season. Or how about every time a small or non bsc school gets in the bowl picture they immediately fuck them over with some game where they couldn't slay Goliath and keep the little team down.
That my friend, is all about stone cold cash. And the bigger schools (ala Bama) benefit from that. Corrupy, hypocritical mess.

Re: College Football season has begun!
The SYSTEM is corrupt, but that does not have a direct effect the players IMO. What I mean by that is this: Lets say player A is a Blue Chip senior prospect from a North Dakota high school, he has offers from 15 major colleges, do you honestly think he is going to pick a local college over a USC, Bama or Boise State? Not likely, and it has more to do with his future NFL prospects vs how corrupt those larger schools are. Thats why I dont see college ball in the same light as I do the NFL...because NFL players are themselves bought and sold to make teams as the owners see fit.NeverSurrender wrote:i think you misunderstood my point.

Yes, NCAA Div 1 colleges make a ton of money on the backs of their teams, via sponsorships, advertising and TV deals...but that money also spreads out across the entire college sports programs in a lot of those schools. Bama for instance, football alone funds the entire Sports Department...including the coaching staffs salaries as well as other sports that couldnt be played if not for the money that Crimson Tide football brings in...

I know you like to argue just for the sake of arguing, but this is really beyond stupid.
Is there a sport that isnt corrupt in some shape, form or fashion? The answer of course is NO, there isnt. Need proof, just look at the The Olympics this year where 3 teams were chastised and subsequently disqualified for lousy play to affect their seed positions in the later rounds. Even NASCAR, the far end of an actual "sport" has its fair share of scandals due to the amount of money that can be made by a winning team...
To say that college sports are any more corrupt than professional sports is just daft. The amount of money generated and doled out in professional sports dwarfs that of college sports...hands down.

As soon as you convince me the sport is not all about the cash, then I'm a troll.
I watch it every Saturday. I actually have two college football teams I cheer for. I am not delusional however. I know the sport is ALL about money and very hypocritical. It's also the least fair when you''re talking about big schools and small schools and how they operate and how what position they are in put into succeed . You calling me a troll and having 0 points isn't going to change any of that.

True, but the NFL has a cap and is ultimately more balanced across 30 teams than the college game is IMO.BodyBagz wrote:The difference for me, is in college ball, the coach/manager/team owner is not able to go out and spend $100million to build a superstar team.demolition23 wrote:I can never totally get into it.

Your eyes aren't lying to you. College football is fine but the game at the pro level is so much better. Even a team like the Colts last season being beat down repeatedly would dismantle any CFB champion.demolition23 wrote:I can never totally get into it.

They looked damn good Saturday morning while I was drinking two bottles of champagne. Took a year, but Kelly's offense looked to be hitting on all cylinders. Of course they were running it against guys that are going to be in submarines in six months, but still.NeverSurrender wrote:NeverSurrender wrote:Best.Uniform.Ever:

Pac 12 Network debuted this year.
Big Ten has there own network. That is maybe 3 years old now.
NCAA Football is all about $$$.
The opening week of the season is proof.
The big schools, highly ranked schools schedule a home game so they can
earn extra revenue while playing a team that has no chance of winning the game.
A school that is only traveling to the mighty powerhouse school because of the payday. RIDICULOUS situation.

I've always liked and trusted Kelly. he doesn't seem to bring the same drama Weis did. Not that it was his fault. I see good things in store as long as they can play some defense.
