Neither side gives a shit about the game, only themselves.

I'm more with the players on this one, but still - it's all about who gets a bigger piece of an enormous pie. Billionaires fighting with millionaires, while regular people try to scrape together enough $ to take their family to a game.

I'm a sucker for the game, hockey pools, TV, etc., but would thoroughly be behind a one game, one week, "fan walkout" - or whatever - just to show them who's boss, and that there better not be a next time.

If the lockout loses a significant portion of the season, I hope all the arenas will be half empty with lots of season ticket holders canceling their season tickets next year. It would not shock me if the entire season was canceled.

Owners want the game going by Jan. 1 (Winter Classic on NBC); players don't want to lose any time, because their careers are only so long and if you lose $5 mill, you can't recoup it. Owners can be owners for life. The owners know this and are trying to put the hammer to the players, but with Donald Fehr leading the union, that ain't gonna happen.

Also, owners in the sunbelt states don't draw shit until December, when baseball is done, and the hoopla of the NFL kickoff has worn off. Those owners would be happy to play a shortened, 60 game season.

Unfortunately, in places like Montreal, Toronto, Philly, Boston, etc. ticket sales will still be strong, and the day after the lockout the games will be sold out, with "welcome back" signs all over the place. Habs season tickets have a waiting list a mile long; 5-game packages are all sold out; and 10-game packages are just about sold out. If someone bails, there's another sucker waiting to bend over.

The owners gotta sort their own shit out. You don't want long term contracts, tell your GMs not to offer them. Top ticket in Montreal is $200/game; you can get 4 seats for that price, in the same section, in Phoenix. Players shouldn't have to pay for that. Owners need to share revenue more meaningfully, or get out of those shitty markets.

Pretty cool thing the Maple Leafs are doing for their season ticket holders:

• Option 1: Loyalty Program - As games are cancelled, you may elect to keep your money on account with us until hockey resumes and a credit will accrue in your account at an annual simple interest rate of 5% on Toronto Maple Leaf payments. Your credit will be applied to future renewal fees or playoff games. Note that your account must be paid in full to select this option. In the event games are cancelled, interest will begin to accrue on September 15th, 2012.

• Option 2: Monthly Refund - We will refund you on a monthly basis for all games cancelled in the preceding month. You will also receive, on a monthly basis, an interest payment payable on all funds related to Toronto Maple Leaf games held in your account during the applicable month. The interest amount will be calculated at an annual simple interest rate of 1%. In the event games are cancelled, interest will begin to accrue on September 15th, 2012.

I watched about 5 NHL games from the last lockout until 2010. I'm fully prepared to walk away again. I love minor league and will continue to watch that.

I'm very glad I don't care as much about sports as I did as a kid. In my 20's an NHL lockout would have fucked me up. Now it's the same as cancelling a TV show for me. I'll go to a Chicago Wolves or Rockford Ice Hogs game if I need a hockey fix. Fuck Bettman, fuck Don Fehr, fuck the whole situation.

Hell yeah. Anybody going to boycott? A lot of people are going to unlike Nl pages on facebook and stop following on twiiter and other things. I'm doing that, although I'm not sure I will boycott the players.

If they lock out, I won't go to a single NHL game this season and probably next season either at least.
I boycotted MLB for 3 years after the 1994 season was shortened and the playoffs cancelled. If they don't care about their postseason, why should I?
The NHL has done this too many times now.

I'm disgusted with both sides here. The owners can't cry poor when their revenues are up almost 50% the last seven years and the players can't either. Their average salary has gone up 100K a year the last seven years.

I need to make a pretty heavy decision. I stopped supporting the Blackhawks during the Wirtz era and they pulled me back in in 09/10. I can live without hockey. If this drags into the regualr season I'm going to spend a lot of time with my family I guess. The worst part about explaining to my seven year old son who doesn't even know they play for money is he won't be singing 'duncan keith and he's got no teeth' after every blackhawks goal because there aren't any games for him to watch.

I watched about 5 games from the lockout until the 2010 Olympics. That got me back watching. i can't live without hockey, but i can live without the NHL. Take your kids to a Wolves game, John. it's cheaper. Or this...

NHL fined Detroit for those comments.
http://www.torontosun.com/2012/09/22/nh ... ry-bettman

Sabres owner Terry Pegula also got a warning(but no fine) from the NHL office this week for responding to a question with "..can't say much, don't want to lose draft picks."

Really,Jimmy D didn't say anything shocking/surprising,in that us fans already believed thats how the owners and management felt-it's just not usually said out loud. He's given the NHLPA some bulletin board fodder to campaign with though, and that has to upset Bettman.

Have you ever seen the list of what NHL owners own besides their team? They half of North America. They don't give a fuck. Greedy fucks. I'm surprised I don't care more. I guess having Minor leagues and NFL makes it easier.

Goodbye, NHL. You won me back, but it will take an Islanders cup run to get me back this time. And we know that ain't happening. Fuck off.

No, fuck the NHL. Hockey is a great sport. A great team sport. And guys don't dance around drawing attention to themselves. I will still watch hockey, just not the NHL.

I still think the owners have no plans to cancel the entire season and they will be playing by mid-November. And the Winter Classic promotion/HBO has to start up around then and the first NBC game is 11/26 with the Bruins and Rangers playing. Pierre Mcquire said that will be the first game of the year. For what his opinion is worth. I guess there will have to be a 10 day camp before a game can be played so a deal is done in 3 weeks or so.
