A nice tidy package of nationalism, mullets, Al Micheals, the Olympics, and hockey, none of which I particularly give a shit about.

Still, I can understand why people remember this so fondly. I guess.

No I really can't.

I'm Canadian and I still think that's the best hockey moment ever. For a group of college kids, most of whom never played much pro afterwards, to beat a team that was the equivalent of a Stanley Cup caliber squad was just incredible. It truly was a miracle on ice.

I was Miracle on Ice any chance I get on t.v.

Which film is best?
The early version from '81 with Karl Malden as Herb Brooks or the most recent version with Kurt Russell?

The conspiracy theories over this game have been going on since the final buzzer. There's just one small problem.....The Russians were all over the Americans for the entire second period and outside of two shifts, the 3rd period as well.

Yes pulling Tretiak for Myshkin was puzzling and does lead credence to a fix,(in more way than one- Myshkin went in cold and had only faced a couple of shots in 27 minutes before Mark Johnson tied it and Eruzione scored the eventual winner,he was definitely not "in the game") ,however you'd have to discount Jim Craig standing on his head and at least two shots off goalposts in order to fully credit this theory. The Americans won cleanly.

ETA: This game didn't guarantee a medal for the U.S. They could've finished anywhere from 1st to 4th,depending on how their game with Finland and the Russians game with Sweden turned out-which only further knocks holes in a conspiracy theory.

The coach freaked out by pulling Tretiak because he wasn't used to the game being so close. Just like at the end when he had no clue when to pull teh goalie because they rarely lost. The Americans woin the game because of Jim Craig and a couple of good bounces. I love conspiracies, but this ain't one.

And I do have to disagree. Many of these guys made the NHL and had good careers. Before them, American kids rarely made the NHL.

Neil Broten, Kenny Morrow, Jack O' Callahan, Mark Johnson, Mike Ramsey and Davey Christian all had good long careers and 13 of the 20 played in the NHL at least a little bit.

And meathead, suck a dick. RGIII's dick.
