I remember when he would cheer for Dallas and pretend not to while doing it.

RIP. One of the great voices of his generation. I grew up listening to him and Madden on FOX as well as the Madden video game.

Nah.
Unlike say, Aerosmith, he knew that his best work was finished once he got clean.

During the last couple years of his broadcasting, was he hammered on air? I remember thinking that he is either fucked up or just way too old to be doing it.

One of the very few that went from player to play by play announcer. Most ex-athletes can't do that, Ray Bentley and Ron Pitts are the rare ones that come to mind. Most move into the analyst role.
He was a great one.
Rest In Peace, kind sir

I knew he was a ex-football player but never cared to look back on his playing days, somewhere I saw on tv and they were talking about him and they showed some old footage, S.O.B. he was a placekicker, I would have never guessed that he's a pretty big guy I would of thought linebacker or something like that.

I hate to stick up for the little prick but he didn't retire until 2002, so there we have it, definitive proof of lil pp actually telling the truth.

He doesn't remember Pat from way back when. He remembers him from Madden video games! He couldn't tell me, without looking it up, the name of his longtime broadcast colleague before Madden. Hell, pee pee doesn't even know who John Madden coached! He thinks he invented a football game for assholes to play!

How the fuck would I "remember" Summerall from before I was born??? I'm not a magician you fucking idiot. I'll say it again, I grew up listening to him and Madden on Fox in the 90s. What's so hard to understand about that? Sorry I'm not old like you and I don't "remember" who his partner was in the 70s because I was not alive then.
Hell, you shouldn't even be talking about football. You'll never have a true understanding of the sport since you aren't from the United States. Stick to sports you do know about, like Soccer and queering.

This again, really? I live in the United States; always have. Just because my avatar is what it is, doesn't make any difference. Just like your sigs don't make you a cock loving faggot. You were clearly that before the sigs.

He went on after Madden left for Monday Nights and Pat was well into his 70s. He did games for Fox (mostly in Dallas) with Brian Baldinger, Sunday Night Football on ESPN when Mike Patrick was taken ill, and I think Pat's last game was actually a Cincinnati Bengal game in 2007. Between sobriety, old age, and not having a side man like Brookshier or Madden, Summerall was a shell of his old self. In his prime. With Brookshier and later with Madden, Summerall was the BEST play-by-play announcer in broadcasting. Period.

Not to repeat myself, but Madden left Summerall in 2002, but Summerall stuck around, off and on, for another 5 seasons. I wasn't aware when I watched the game, but the Saint Louis Rams at Cincinnati Bengals game was Pat's last game. Pat had pretty much been demoted to FOX purgatory by then, but he was essentially a "substitute" announcer by then. Anyone who says they grew up listening to an announcer on a friggin' video game is indeed a moron.

The Summerall/Madden team was one of the best broadcast teams ever in any sport.

Yes it was. No disrespect to the GREAT Al Michaels, but he and Madden didn't complement one another the way Summerall and Madden did. They just an incredible dynamic together. It just worked.
