Just got back from living on the eastcoast for almost 3 months, and didnt hear a single word of this season from Vin until yesterday.
Heaven! The Dodgers suck this year, but to hear the best in the business is gold.
Vin & Chick Hearn two untouchables when it comes to calling a game.

Vin Scully is so soothing to listen to call a game, just a master!

I love how the game is secondary . . . and it's not irritating. Most announcers talk about other things than the game and it doesn't fit . . . with Vin Scully, it's like listening to a cool Uncle and "Oh yeah, there's a baseball game going on also"
"Great day to bring the family down to the ballpark. White cumulus clouds against a baby blue background. The echoes of vendors calling for beer mixed in with the sounds of popping corn and the smell of roasting peanuts countering the freshly cut grass, curve ball low."
Greatness.

Now that Harry and Ernie are gone, Vin is all I have left. Could listen to him read internet terms and conditions.

Another thing he does that is great is he knows when to say nothing. He lets the game tell the story.
Last night was a perfect example.
When the new stud of the Dodgers got nailed in the face.
Vin didn't say much.
They had the close up shot on him sitting on the ground be attended by the trainers, and I was saying to myself "where the hell is Mattingly"? They went to a long shot & he was there a few feet away letting the trainers do their things.
By the way, Mattingly should not be fired. Injuries have done a number on the Dodgers.
I hope Kemp can get healthy & get it together.
And I can't stand Andre Either.

I hate Ethier as well.
And yes, Scully is the absolute best. Was just watching that skirmish from last night, and he just lets it breathe and comments the perfect amount.
He's also not bogged down by having a stupid 'analyst' with an agenda in the booth with him.

What's going on with Kemp anyway? Is he hurt again?

Hamstring.
Mattingly needs to go. He doesn't understand how to play small ball. Idiot sending runner to steal third with two out and batting Luis Cruz 5th when he is batting 127.

Vin Scully is a breath of fresh air, I'd rather meet and hang out with Vin more then any star player.
I'll never forget spending the summer of 1988 working day and night in an Auto Body shop fixing car's while listening to every game. Sure there's the series but it's Scully's voice calling the games I remember vividly.

It's between Vin and Lasorda for me for hanging out.

Imagine being stuck on an airplane with those two, the conversations would be endlessly entertaining without wanting to get a word in.

Per Wikipedia:
"In 1972, his 35-year-old wife, Joan Crawford, died of an accidental medical overdose. Scully was suddenly a widowed father of three after 15 years of marriage. In late 1973, he married Sandra Schaefer, who had two children of her own, and they soon had a child together."
Doesn't say whether the second wife is still alive. Anyone know?
