So...what's Jerry Remy's kid up to these days?

Jared Remy, released on Wednesday for assaulting girlfriend, now charged with murdering her

WALTHAM – Jared Remy, the son of famed Boston Red Sox player and broadcaster Jerry Remy, allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death in their apartment Thursday night, an act of domestic violence that took place while the victim’s daughter was home, officials said today.

Remy is scheduled to be arraigned today on murder and domestic assault and battery charges at Waltham District Court — the same courthouse where he appeared on Wednesday to face allegations that he assaulted Jennifer Martel, the woman he is now accused of killing, officials said.

Martel’s daughter was home when her mother was killed, Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan told reporters at a brief press conference outside Waltham police headquarters today. The child is now in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.

Remy was released on personal recognizance on Wednesday, and Ryan said that the bail recommendation made by her office was based, in part, on a conversation with Martel. “The bail recommendation was based on a totality of circumstances,’’ Ryan said.

Waltham police were called to the Windsor Village apartment complex around 9 p.m. last night.

Arriving officers found Martel bleeding from multiple stab wounds in a small fenced-in patio in the back of the apartment.

Remy was arrested at the scene, Ryan said. He was later taken to a hospital for examination for unspecified medical issue, but is now expected to appear in court later today.

This morning, inside the patio at the unit on Stearns Hill Road, was a large bloodstain lying next to a small pink plastic tricycle. Ryan said Martel was found lying in the patio.

An evidence marker with the number 1 on it was placed next to the blood stain.

Last night, residents said that a couple with a young girl lived in the unit.

“It’s creepy, it’s a couple hundred yards from my window,” one neighbor said last night as she watched Waltham police and State Police process the bloody crime scene. “The little girl was literally selling lemonade the other day.”

The resident described the man — now identified as Remy — who lived in the unit as a very nice guy and said that in addition to the daughter, the couple had two pit bulls. At the scene this morning, a sign warning people about the dog was attached to the fence.

In 2009, the Globe reported that Remy and a second member of the Red Sox security staff were implicated in steroid use, a revelation that led Major League Baseball to open an investigation into the alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs during the team’s 2008 pennant race.

Both Remy and the second man were fired by the Red Sox. Major League Baseball did not find evidence of steroid use among Red Sox players at that time, the Globe reported.

In interviews with the Globe in 2009, Remy denied supplying steroids to his coworker, but acknowledged that he has been a steroid user.

At that time, the Globe described Remy as “massively muscular man’’ who loved weightlifting - and also admitted beating up a former girlfriend in 2005.

This guy's been a scumbag forever. Jerry and the the Sox have been complicit in his douchbaggery for a long time. He worked for the team. The sale of the Globe must not be final yet because if Henry was the owner this wouldn't even make the broadsheet.
