I take it I'm the only one watching this? I actually like the new format with 24 teams. Some "weak" countries assumed to be walked over by everybody like Nigeria or Cameroon even looked pretty impressive.

USA still got the hottest squad, though.

Nope, you are not alone. Love watching the Germans, the Japanese, the French, anyone playing Mexico and of course, I love watching Le Hotties de USA. Christine Sinclair is one of the best players in the world but she's all alone on Canada. The African nations are usually entertaining and their fans are phenomenal.

The Nigeria-Sweden match was awesome to watch as a neutral. Sweden's coach called for a three 'man' backline so Nigeria's coach put on four attackers. Pretty fun to watch the back and forth and the confusion on the Sweden end. Australia got hosed being put in this group. They would advance out of almost any other group but this one is just out of their abilities.

On the Men's side, Friday's Netherlands 3-4 USA friendly result was awesome watching the Yanks claw back from 2 down on the road with 2 goals in the final 2 minutes of regulation. Five shots off of posts/crossbars and some nice saves prevented this match from being 9-8. "BIG" match on Wednesday between Klinsi and Low . . . well big to us if we win . . . other than that it's just another friendly

I saw a few people in Canada tops on the skytrain the other day. But yeah, no real buzz at all.

Fuck me, normally I have trouble sleeping before dawn, but last week I regularly passed out before midnight, missing pretty much all live coverage (games started around 2AM my time).

France and Sweden very disappointing so far (wish USA would have finished them off). Which I don't really mind either. The Euro domination gets boring with the European Cup and Olympics and Champions League and everything where you tend to see all the same players. Could be a chance to give some others a push that don't have much backing for bitch soccer at home.

Anyway, to get back on topic: that Ali Krieger is just getting prettier and prettier every year. A face more decent than even Alex Morgan's, and I bet her butthole puts Hope Solo's to shame! She should be the one raking it in with all the advertizing contracts. Come back to Frankfurt already, who wants to play for fucking Warshington?

Well, it's a relatively recent spin-off of a niche sport, what kind of buzz do you expect? Women's soccer isn't exactly a hooligan event with drunks partying it up in the streets. Which is obviously sad, but it's already getting more attention than ever before.

At least it should appease those who complain about not having football type scoring in soccer. But yeah, Ecuador's defense has the strategic discipline of a grade school team. I still don't see Switzerland getting very far, though.

Feel a bit bad for New Zealand, that was a total bullshit penalty. Combined with the rather undeserving draw for Holland, they should have advanced.

Canada needs to step up their game. Tournaments always suck when the hosts are eliminated early.

I've watched a bit so far, mainly the Americans as their games have been on at good times. Saw England in their second match too.

I'll try and watch the 2 games tomorrow. For some reason, after the European seasons are over I usually take a break until pre-season starts unless the World cup is on. But this year I've been interested in the internationals that have been on, plus the MLS and now the Womens World cup. I've just not been able to take a break.

Brazil - Australia - Tough match to call as the Aussies are tough. Marta, though.

Japan - Netherlands - The Dutch have impressed, but the defending champs look solid.

USA - Colombia - USA should roll

Canada - Switzerland - Another toss up. ONLY went with Canada because they're hosting

China - Cameroon - African Women's football is fun to watch

France - South Korea - South Korea has come a long way but France is another level or two above them.

Germany 4 Sweden 1 - Fuck I wanted to see this match, felt Germany wouldn't have much of a problem.

China 1 Cameroon 0 - The weakest game I've seen so far, China made good on an early corner kick but the rest of the game was sloppy passes on both sides. The possession game was a mess. China could have upped the score but didn't push and when they did they flopped and looked left footed.
Cameroon was faster had the players, no organization and looked lost when they got near the box.

USA or Colombia should easily take China down.

Couldn't watch Saturday's games, but I'm liking the results. I'm glad Brazil shit the bed so early - not because they seemed to pose a big threat this year, but I'm still not over their despicable performance against USA at the 2011 World Cup.

Germany vs. France in the next round has potential for the closest and best match of the tournament. Definitely the two strongest teams so far, in my opinion. Sadly: hardly the hottest.

Norway 1-2 England

This was a great match by two pretty good teams. There was a little bit of ping pong soccer here and there but the overall quality of the women's game has grown big time.

Watched Norway totally dominate the first half then got a goal in the 53rd minute. After that England turned it around and came back, harsh loss for Norway, they played a good game. England played like shit the first half but was able to find stretches in the second and made good on the come back.

Feel bad for Norway, Ada Hegerberg should have won this for her team. And pretending to get hurt after basically being handed a ball for a throw-in towards the end was some Brazilian level bullshit by England. Hope they get seriously fucked in the next round.

Columbia was weaker than I thought, that was a disappointing game to watch. USA is lucky to face China next without Rapinoe.

US 2 vs Colombia 0 - was an ugly dirty match, at least the 2nd half was. After the game Colombia walked off the field pissed and kicking grass. The Reffing was shit. Even with Colombia down a player the US didn't look impressive with Colombia still pushing.
US may have a tender and good D but they're not putting anything the net, after watching China 1 Cameroon 0 the US should be able to take China but that's as far as it goes unless they get some possession and Strikes to go in.
I don't like their coaching either.

Germany was pathetic against France in the first half. I don't understand why Dzsenifer Marozsan didn't play from the start, Germany was a whole different team with her after the break. Overall still an awesome game from a dramatic point of view. Perfect ending with Lavogez missing the final penalty, who had tried to get a penalty in the game with a ridiculously obvious dive that didn't even earn her a booking. Little bit of poetic justice.

Passed out during USA vs. China, but I'm positive Ali Krieger looked hot. So does the Chinese goalie, come to think of it. I think she plays in Germany too.

By far and away this was the USA'a best match. They pressed the Chinese all match long as Solo only faced three shots.

Wished I could have watched the Germany match. Sounds like a nail biter.

I feel Germany beats the US, the US can't score, our coach isn't aggressive enough to help and after watching China vs Cameroon I figured we'd take China sleeping. I think the US coach is too conservative and it hurts the team. Shouldn't we have our full team and get back those two yellow card hookers right?

I'm calling it Germany 1 USA 0 Maybe 2 - nil

We have a keeper and good d but if go to shootouts we're done, isn't Germany the best shootout team on the planet?

I agree, she looked best of all the forwards I've seen so far. I missed Sydney Leroux in the group games, though. Is she out? I remember liking her a lot in the past.

I'm not so sure. "Offense wins games, defense wins titles" as they say. With Rapinoe back, USA has a chance to dominate the midfield in a similar way that France did, especially if Germany plays without Marozsan for some bizarre reason again.

Both teams proved they're totally beatable this year. I suspect a fight more than an elegant strategic victory. Could be good.

With what little I know of Germany I'm not sure what to expect really. Guess I picture it being cautious at first but turning into a fight.

Either way, it's game day, game on!
