XFL has started!

Post by FullDJacket »

What did you think? A bad look IMO with the empty seats and lukewarm crowds....the play was ok. If this article is correct they did great ratings...all games beat the Lakers - Warriors game in both total viewers and important demographics

https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2020/0 ... edges-aaf/
The new XFL got off to a good start in the ratings.

Saturday’s Seattle-DC XFL season debut averaged a 2.1 rating and 3.30 million viewers on ABC, edging last year’s primetime Alliance of American Football opener on CBS (1.9, 3.25M), if no match for the original XFL opener on NBC in 2001 (9.5, 15.7M).

In stark contrast to the AAF and the original XFL, the debut audience was not the high water mark. It was surpassed a day later by the Tampa Bay-New York game on FOX, which averaged a 2.1 and 3.39 million — the largest audience for a non-NFL pro football game since Week 6 of the original XFL (3.67M).

XFL opening weekend delivered the three largest audiences over that span, with Saturday’s Los Angeles-Houston game ranking third at a 1.9 and 3.29 million.

The XFL ranked second, third and fourth among weekend sporting events, behind only Sunday’s final round of the PGA Tour Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on CBS (2.3, 3.51M). The three games on broadcast television each outdrew Saturday’s Duke-North Carolina men’s college basketball game on ESPN (1.6, 2.67M) and Lakers-Warriors NBA game on ABC (1.8, 2.88M).

The lone game on cable, St. Louis-Dallas on ESPN Sunday, averaged a 1.4 and 2.50 million, peaking at 2.93 million from 7:30-7:45 PM ET. No AAF game on cable exceeded a 0.6 and 1.02 million.

Notably, the four XFL games were the most-watched sporting events of the weekend in adults 18-49.

It's football. I liked it. Course, I liked it the first time around. Guardians playing in Met life though is gonna hurt them. They aren't going to have NFL sized crowds.

Already in week one, the officiating was better than anything in the NFL the past few years.

Hope it succeeds.

So far the problems are that the teams all play sloppy. Tons of dropped passes, snaps, passes overthrown, interceptions. Scores look more like baseball scores most of the time.

But I'm sticking with it. I like some of the new rules, so it makes it interesting. I don't love all the player interviews, though. I think the XFL greatly overestimates our interest in hearing out of breath meatheads giving stock answers to stock questions. We don't care!!

To me the XFL is to the NFL what AEW is to the WWE in the sense of the first week was fun but then you start to see chinks in the armor each week after. I would love the NFL to have competition like I would the WWE but financially it's just too big of a hill to climb realistically.

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick talked with XFL executives last fall about possibly playing for the league when it reboots in 2020, according to Sporting News' Michael McCarthy.

McCarthy notes Kaepernick was seeking at least $20 million to play in the XFL. That's a steep ask, given McCarthy reported that the league is looking to pay starting quarterbacks $250,000 per season.

This development comes after Barry Wilner of the Associated Press reported earlier this month that the Alliance of American Football—which debuted Feb. 9—sought to sign the controversial QB. Per Wilner, Kaepernick was seeking $20 million-plus from that startup league as well.

I have to agree with this. AAFL had better play but on the other hand XFL has better rules.

I get that. Kaepernick is a 180 degrees opposite of the image they want for XFL. They don't want politics (or criminals, no that Kaepernick is a criminal)

Well I'm not so sure I believe that as ultimately they will be compared to the NFL in terms of quality of play much as AEW will to the WWE. Might not be a fair but as a fan of football in general I compared it to the NFL and it's not even close so what's the point in watching it?

Don't you like minor league hockey? Is that like the NHL?

XFL is better than the NFL, because the refs aren't in control.

I love minor league hockey because frankly some of the tougher players who are no longer good enough to keep up with the pace of the NHL are still valuable there. I still get the violence I crave at the NFL so for me personally the XFL just doesn't do it for me. It's like seeing the cast of The Jersey Shore remake Goodfellas. I mean I do like the no movement on kickoffs but outside of that it's a huge drop off in play.

This is complete and utter bullshit.

Just off the top of my head ghe XFL signed SJ Green who has over 10,000 receiving yards in his CFL and a linemen Derrick Dennis.

We know to write your XFL opinion off from now on.

yeah he's turning 35 this year and nobody picked him up in free agency. he had some great years in montreal playing with anthony calvllo, who has the most career passing yards in professional football (79,816)
dennis playing in the nfl, got cut.....cfl. got cut. now he's going to be the best offensive lineman in the xfl.
so has beans and retreads. what's your point? it's guys playing beer league football for decent money.

i said the xfl players weren't good enough to play in the cfl. i also said i like the cfl better than the nfl. cfl players come from schools and the nfl cuts. the xfl players are coming from schools and gas stations.
so that makes you a stupid idiot.
