What if this is some kind of Hollywood arrangement? It happens all the time.
They pretend to be married and may or may not actually go through with it.
In exchange, she gets publicity and someone to manage her desolate career.
In exchange, he gets publicity for his "final" tour, plus, he gets bonus points that might make him look good to potential investors given that times are lean and he's looking to branch into films, etc. Times are lean, and I'm sure that investors are not throwing their money away. The more money you have, the tighter you are with it.
You can't tell me she was actually supporting herself in L.A. by the money she made from WIG and "modeling." Most bands make their money from touring and record sales; seriously, WIG couldn't even pack a bar.
The arrangement allows for both him and her to carry on their relationships/dalliances with others.
