Garbageman wrote:"Ned Kelly"- I saw the 1970 version (it was remade a few years back). It starred Mick Jagger as some strange Aussie outlaw from the 1800's but for whatever reason all the songs were sung in a 1970 country style by a very American-sounding Waylon Jennings.

Jagger was OK, the music was OK but didn't seem to fit, but it really lacked the Peckinpah-like violence I crave from any sort of western!
Worst miscasting ever putting nancy boy Mick Jagger as Ned Kelly.

it had some nicely placed "holy shit" moments, but some of the special effects and makeup were lame.
I gave it about a 6...a few freaky moments but pretty predictable.
definitely predictable. but i would have given it a higher score if they'd done better with some of the effects. and a higher body count. those who were already dead at the start of the movie don't count.

i watched Warehouse 13 on USA right after it, and it made me sad that a SyFy original had better effects and a bigger body count.

Obviously, I like the fact that a lot of it's 'real' *spolier* - the wrestling hooligans doing all they can to kill 'Bruno' when they find out he's gay (having dressed up as a 'wrestler' of some sort with a mullet and calling himself 'Straight Dave') is quite alarming.

The charity single at the end is great. Slash  Bono, Sting, Snoop Dogg and Chris Martin are in it. I must've seen the ending about 5 times now.
How does it compare to the Borat film?
Borat was genius! Bruno is not. Not even close.

The Late Shift- 6/10. It had its moments and seemed like a decent summation of the whole Carson torch-passing fiasco, but it was largely 'meh', and they really could've found someone better to play Leno.

I applaud the attempt to make a horror/western, but it moved too slowly, the characters were never developed properly, the creatures were weak and the end sucked.
See DEAD BIRDS..much better horror film with a western-ish setting.
Thanks for the input. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Shamefully, last week I saw Chinatown for the first time. What an excellent film, I rarely give anything the full 10/10 but this time I think I've seen a flick that deserves it. It's my favourite Jack Nicholson role, and I think Faye Dunaway and John Huston are both superlatively cast.

Agreed with the strange decision to cast Jagger as Ned Kelly, but he was very good in Nic Roeg's Performance, which was the same year I believe.

To the person slightly disappointed by Harry Potter; what the fuck do you expect? You read children's books, for fuck's sake.

X-Men: I just watched this for the first time. Now I want to see the sequel. Or sequels, whatever. This movie was awesome and if I didn't have a little boy who loves superhero movies, I never would have seen it.

If not go to the link in my sig and order it. It's really worth it.

One of my favorite films of all time! "The Two Jakes" (the sequel) is pretty good too.

I'm sure you've already seen it, but on the off chance you haven't, L.A. Confidential is another great movie in that vein ...

When Harry Met Sally - 9/10.

Meg Ryan - looking human, wearing pants up to her armpits.

Bruno Kirby - alive, and says the line "You made a woman meow?"

Caught a few on vacation:

Taken: I'm going to give this one a 9/10. Great movie, which I didn't even want to see, but was glad I did.

House Bunny: After watching this, I feel oddly compelled to say people's names in an exorcist tone upon first meeting them. Other than that, a few good lines came from this movie, which I have been quoting daily. Despite being a completely mindless view, I'm giving it a 6/10.

Captivity: Completely screwed up. I think it ranks right up there with "Silence of the Lambs"- yet I believe this production borrowed the "Lambs" props. This was probably the first movie that has ever made me gag due to content. I'm giving this a 9/10. I recommend it.

Baby Mama: Sucked worse than an Amish virgin. I turned it off. 0/10

Horsemen

7 out of 10. predictable in some spots, but even then they still manage to throw you a curve ball. Kinda leaves you hanging at the end, but i guess that's a good way to pave the road for a sequel.

plus Dennis Quaid is in it. you can't go wrong with him.

Body Of Lies - Decent enough. I hate to say it but that fucking DiCaprio can act.

Sin City on Blu Ray - NO extras except commentary. Why pay more for that? The movie itself rules still.

Benjamin Button What a boring, pretentious, self-important pieces of shit. I actually fell asleep for 30 minutes in the middle, woke up, and felt like I'd missed nothing. The supposedly astounding special effects were nothing to write home about. Whatever. It's like a narcolepsy-inducing version of Forrest Gump. 3/10
