Paranormal Activity - 9/10

It's another Blair Witch style faux-documentary, but a really good one. A young couple living together begin experiencing escalating supernatural happenings in their home and decide to start leaving a video camera on in their bedroom while they sleep to capture proof on tape.

All the online hype is completely warranted. The midnight showing I attended had the audience screaming for most of the last ten minutes. When this thing goes into wide release it's going to be HUGE.

I want to see this so fucking bad, it's opening at 1 theater in Austin next week. So many people are saying it's awesome, I hope it gets a wider release.

"Reservation Road"- Some parts were a bit slow for my liking, but aside from that, I actually sat through the entire movie without fidgeting. It was one of those "oh shit" type of story lines, so it kept me drawn in. 8/10

"The Strangers"- I had assumed all of the redundant little "teaser-scares" in the beginning would lead up to one big finale...Nope. When the ending credits started rolling, all I did was sit there and think to myself, "O....K? Was that it?" 4/10

"Speak"- I caught this on Lifetime a while back. Basically, Kristen Stewart walking around and mumbling a bunch. 3/10

I'm not normally into this kind of movie, but you're selling it pretty well here. If it ever makes it to A-ville, I'll check it out.

Adventureland 7/10. Kristen Stewart's go-to move to show thoughtfulness is to put her head down and play with her hair. She bugs me. Jesse Eisenberg played almost the same kid from The Squid and the Whale, only was slightly more likable. Still, I liked it more than I thought I would.

Martin Starr is that dude. That was a decent movie.

4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days- 8/10. Parts dragged, but it was really compelling overall.

Grace - 9/10

FUCK, this movie was so unsettling. You know a movie's fucked up when an eyeful of grandma tit is a welcome break from everything else going on. I'm sure some horror jocks will be like "What the fuck! That shit ain't brutal! Murder-Set-Pieces, bitch!" but I gotta say, I thought it was disturbing as hell.

That guy is unbelievably delusional and talentless. Last I heard, he was selling all of the rights to his first movie on eBay.

Made it ten episodes into season 2 of weeds. Every character has something despicable about them and I love them all. Many thanks to whoever recommended this series.

Coverfield - 5/10
Kept me somewhat interested until the ending.

You Don't Mess With The Zohan - 6/10
Pretty stupid but the parts that made me laugh made up for it.

Greenfingers - My first Clive Owen experience. It was no Brubaker, but I liked it. 3.3/5

Cold Souls - Paul Giamatti is excellent as Paul Giamatti. A fun film. Cold and depressing, but fun. 4/5

The Invention of Lying - 10/10

Fucking great movie !! Very funny. Of course, I love Ricky Gervais. It was sad in some spots, but not overly sappy. I definetly recommend it.

17 Again- 6/10. Nothing original but it was a'ight. That Thomas Lennon dude was the highlight, though he played (again) a somewhat unoriginal sort of character.

I really want to check that one out, I liked the look of the trailers I saw for it.

Zombieland - 9.2/10. This movie was funny. Plus, the Unit Production Manager or some title like that was named Ezra Swerdlow. I love crazy names, and this guy has one.

30 Days of Night - 8/10

Great vampire movie, and fairly original. Loved the plot.

Orphan - 7.5/10

Kinda dull in the first half but you're trying to figure out what the girl's deal is so that keeps you going. Fun movie especially the second half.

Kramer vs. Kramer 8.9/10. I had always heard the kind of good stuff about a movie that makes me want to avoid it, but despite the urge to hate it, I really liked this movie.

Watched 'Up' with my niece yesterday. This is Pixar's 10th film now, and they've proved themselves yet again. It has an original storyline and, even though some of the stuff they've included in it seem a bit far-fetched - floating houses, talking dogs, ostrich/parrot birds - I think the only reason for that is that this film, unlike many of their previous ones, feature 'real' people in it - rather than, say, monsters, bugs or robots. Though, it all really just adds to the greatness of it. After all, it's a kids film - who says there has to be rules? I give it 10/10!

As a side, the little film at the beginning was also great - I dunno if you folks'll get it stateside (I'm guessing you will) but don't miss that!

The Dogs of War starring Christopher Walken. I only saw half of it but it was really good. He is really young in it, and goes on crazy Recon missions in Africa. I'd give it a 9/10.

Couples Retreat - 8/10. I thought it had moments that were VERY funny, but it was not the laugh fest I had hoped for.

Tyson: Really interesting documentary about Mike Tyson. I didn't realize that pretty much all of that flashback footage of Mickey talking to Rocky in Rocky V was directly lifted from an interview with Mike and his manager BITD. Great old footage and interviews, what makes this documentary great is Mike's honesty. He's a crazy motherfucker, really a violent kind of criminal, mentally disturbed...but you will walk away from this feeling sorry for the guy and with a very odd kind of admiration as well.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past: Chick flick and a half, ripping of Dickens' A Christmas Carol because it's just not been done enough. Kind of stupid movie, really, but Matthew McConaghey (spelling?) is hot and Michael Douglas manages to be pretty funny.
