Overrated and... eh.
6/10.
One of those movies you watch once and don't have to ever again.
This is just proof of what power/influence Oprah has, hyping this up

The "Chicago rendezvous" was WAY predictable. I had it down to every last detail, before he knocked on the door.
Good flick, though - definitely.

"Cop Out" was boring and like a long parody of old 80's movies. A few laughs here and there, but it is definitely my least favorite Kevin Smith movie. It left a really bad taste in my mouth...

Rockers- 9/10. Cool Jamaican film from '78. Stars reggae musician Horsemouth Wallace as himself, along with several other famous reggae musicians/singers/producers in supporting roles: Big Youth, Burning Spear, Gregory Isaacs, Jacob Miller, etc. Not much of a plot (a basic David and Goliath or Robin Hood-type thing) and the acting is honestly pretty poor (these guys weren't professionals in that field), but for fans of reggae music it's a must-see. Stunning fucking soundtrack... and some cool performances, some of which are lip-synced but so what? Isaacs and Miller kill it, as does the underrated Kiddus I. And Burning Spear singing a cappella; not every movie has that! Plus songs by Bunny Wailer, the Heptones, Junior Murvin, and more.
Jamaicans had style back then, man. Lots of cool hats and wicked clothing. And the walks! Jah know those were some great fuckin' walks... the montage of Rastamen walking set to "Stepping Razor" is one of the highlights.
Oh, and thank God for subtitles.

The Crossing Guard. 8/10. Saw this for the second time and was able to appreciate it a lot more. A very underrated performance by Jack Nicholson.

Exit Through The Gift Shop - 7/10.
I feel I'm being a bit generous giving it a 7, but I'll stick with it anyway. I didn't read any reviews on this film beforehand, all I knew was that this was 'a Banksy film'. That said, it provided s bit of an insight into the street art world that I never would have known and the film's 'storyline' was original...albeit a bit far-fetched. Even though it's a documentary, I left thinking ' WTF?? Did that guy really do that??' at the end.
I probably would have been able to follow it a lot better if it wasn't for one Mr Paul Weller sitting in front of me and sucking his girlfriend's face.

Mark Of The Devil (1970) 6/10.
First saw this back when Elvira did her Movie Macrbre show in the early 80's. Some of the dubbed voiceovers from German to English are pretty bad, but overall the torture scenes were still pretty cool (no vomit bag with this rental though). Udo Kier I will watch in anything.

Crazy Heart- 8/10. A little slow at times, but the acting was superb. Great performances from Jeff Bridges, Robert Duvall and Colin Farrell

Where the Wild Things Are - 7/10 Pretty Good actually, except the boys incessant screaming. It's like a kids film shot for adults, I would recommend it, but wouldn't watch it again.

Night of the Living Dead 7/10 simply because it is such a classic.

Sideways
Half of this was hilarious, half of it was very boring. Thomas Haden Church's character was a total crack up. Paul Giamatti was great, but the character he played was such a sad sack of shit, you spend most of the movie just wanting to hit him over the head with stuff.

I think I liked the music in it more than the movie actually. I wanted to kill that kid. I understand now why the studio held the movie back for so long and wanted Spike Jonze to re-film the whole thing with a new kid in the lead role. I guess he made them see things his way though.BD888 wrote:Where the Wild Things Are - 7/10 Pretty Good actually, except the boys incessant screaming. The Lucky Ones - 6/10 - Rachel McAdams is officially the cutest and most absorbing actress on the planet....Today. She's good enough that you almost forget how long and uneventful the move is. For a light comedy/drama it's ok.

The Harder They Come- 8/10. I liked Rockers more; equally awesome music, though (of course) and Jimmy Cliff is a cool motherfucker. Gonna have to check out the version with subtitles; apparently the ending is different.

Man, the emotions that this movie arouses is fuckin' devastating that in the end you don't know whether you should feel bad, or feel fuckin' bad! A must see!
