"Gravity" - 9/10
Pretty spectacular effects and camerawork in this one. The acting, which isn't constituted by typical dramatic performances, is really strong, too. Make sure to see it in 3D.

This thing is sitting at around 97% on rotten tomatoes. This is the highest rated movie I've seen that was just good, not great.TenBenny wrote:"Gravity" - 9/10

BILLIE starring Patty Duke! With Jim Baccus as her dad. From 1965. Patty SINGS. And dances the Frug and Shimmy and Pony. The plot is, she's the only girl on the boys high school track team. She runs real fast past those fags and wins every meet! Dramatic. Why did I not know this gem existed? I'm buying it on DVD if I can find it. I give it a solid 10/10.

Parental Guidance 2/10
Billy Crystal and Marissa Tomei
This movie is a typical ABC Family Channel flick. The Studio head that gave this script the green light has hopefully been relieved of his job by now.
I like Crystal and Tomei, but this movie was about as vanilla as they come.

Travis, I video taped 109 episodes of "The Patty Duke Show." It reruns at 5:00 a.m. every morning. You can buy that whole series, but it's real costly. I've always been hooked on her. I think ALOT of people like Patty, Travis. Here's a neat line from her TV show, to her dad at the dinner table, "Oh me and Cathy are going out tonight with a coupla tycoons." TYCOONS. haha Love that.

I've loved her every since seeing her in The Miracle Worker. She was incredible in that film, as was Anne Bancroft.Bighole wrote:TravisBicklesMohawk wrote:I've always loved Patty, so will definitely check this out.Bighole wrote:BILLIE starring Patty Duke! I have seen her tv show and love it as well. She's terribly underrated in both comedy and serious roles.

The Shrine (2010): 5/10
The fun riff on an exorcist / evil dead thing at the end of the film just barely balances out the intolerably dull first half.

Les adoptés ("The Adopted" 2011) - 6/10. Written, directed and starring Mélanie Laurent, I expected more from this frog drama; namely, she could have put herself in more nude scenes.
Un long dimanche de fiançailles ("A Very Long Engagement" 2004) - 6/10. Historical drama set in 1916 during the battle of the Somme, from the makers of Amélie, also starring Audrey Tautou. It's original and quirky and ambitious alright, but I still couldn't really give a shit. War movies blow. Jodie Foster speaks awesome French, though.

We Are the Millers - 6.5/10
Paint by numbers comedy with enough raunch thrown in to appease the kids. It is sweet in spots, but you never doubt the outcome. I wanted more belly laughs.

It's hard for me to get used to these changing times. I can remember when the air was clean and sex was dirty.

Chacun sa nuit ("One to Another" 2006) - 5/10. French indy flick with Lizzie Brocheré (the alien pregger bitch from American Horror Story - Asylum), who's playing a slut who's naked a lot. Everything else sucked.
Edit: Just watched another one with her:
American Translation (2011) - 6/10. She's dating a serial killer and the whole movie is about them living in a van, touring France, killing male prostitutes and banging. She's naked about half the playing time. Not bad.

PINEAPPLE EXPRESS. It's on FX right now. Brilliant. Stoners are funny. The copers are so evil. Downside, too many commercials. 8/10

I'm usually not a fan of IMAX, 3D, or Sandra Bullock, but this movie was fuckin awesome. Go see it in the theaters, it won't translate nearly as well on a TV screen.
9/10 as well for me.

Troma movies can range from B Movie mediocre to awful but Poultrygeist - Night of the Chicken Dead (2006) may be near the top shelf of their franchise. Low budget per usual but some of the gags are pretty entertaining and the not-so-SFX get on a roll towards the end. There might be an actual funny line or two in there also. 7/10

Terrific movie. Very tense and engaging all the way through. Great acting and writing, and Greengrass' direction is meticulous. Hanks is fantastic in this.

Escape From Tomorrow - 2/10. Sounded great on paper - dude takes his family to Disney World, and keeps the secret that he was fired earlier in the day. This black and white movie was supposedly shot inside Disney World without the parks knowledge. Bullshit. It's all green screen, and close-up shots in similar looking locations. Bad acting, bad effects, bad movie. 2 points for the idea.
The Way, Way Back - 8/10. Kid gets stuck going on summer vacation with his moms new boyfriend, Steve Carrell, who is a total douche to the kid. Decent story, some good laughs, worth watching.

Gravity. 10/10 Gotta see it in IMAX though. You will literally became lost in space. I know that sounds cheesy, but it's the only way to describe the effects.
And Sandra Bullock is just all kinds of awesome. Glad to see this movie is doing mega success at the box office.
