ABSOLON 2/5
I love most movies with lou Diamond Philipps. He's a great actor with a really intense presence. He was one of my favorite actors in the Young Guns series. I guess he was low on work when he took this job. It's a Matrix rip, as most 80's PA films ripped off Mad Max, the Matrix was the pole to dance on after 1999.
In 2010, the population has been torn apart by a virus, and a megalo-giant corporation has an antidote, a drug called Absolon, that will keep you alive, but you must pay them, and buy it, forever. So it's not that far off from many of today's pharma-scams. like any good Hollywood trash, only one man can hope to save the world from ultimate destruction. Actually it's more like the megalo-corp kills one of it's scientists, and then gets a hair across it's ass when a cop starts to investigate (the nerve!) so they send out a bunch of hoodlums in expensive black clothes to take him down.
If you're into the 'chase me till I get to where I need to get to without getting killed by assassins or sidetracked by a stupid broad so I can save humanity', with plenty of oversized guns and half-ass Matrix-like graphics, and a hilariously awful screenplay, then by all means, jump in!

American Cyborg: Steel Warrior 3/5 ...total Terminator ripoff but still entertaining
Gangster Squad 3/5 -1 for lack of character develoment and 1 for romanticizing the vigilante cops who just shoot whoever they want. Nice screenplay
Swingers 2/5 boring
The Odd Couple II 4/5 fucking hilarious

Piranha 3DD (2012) - 5/10. Liked the first one better, but it was still a lot less shitty than I expected. The Hoff is always fascinating to watch in "ironic" roles.
Goon (2011) - 6/10. Dumb comedy about a bouncer turning ice hockey pro as an enforcer, based on some real person. Pretty good as far as sports movies go; meaning not completely terrible.

Interesting font on the movie poster. What we've got here, ladies and gents, is the origin of Rachelle's logo.Metal Judge wrote:Tuff Turf

Tuff Turf? Loved that film! Always did think Kim Richards was so damn pretty.
And a great flick to see a very young Robert Downey, Jr. and James Spader.

One of the rare occasions where James Spader actually plays the hero and not the sleezeball jerk characters he usually played.Metal Judge wrote:Yes, I thought the same when I saw the title pop up from the start.Son_of_Sam_I_Am wrote:Interesting font on the movie poster. Captain Phillips. Weird how a film where you know what happens can be that intense.

Central Park Five- 9/10
Ken Burns and PBS deliver again.
Those poor teens were robbed of their youth and were forced to spend X amount of years
in jail because the Police and the DA Office did not do their job.
A first year law student would have the knowledge to determine these youths did not commit
the crime.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Les amants réguliers (2005) - 6/10. Fuck me if this isn't the most pretentious artsy-fartsy hipster film I've ever seen. The plot, if you can call it that, is actually pretty interesting, portraying the lifestyle associated with the 1968 Paris student revolts. But it's three hours, black and white, no music, barely any conceivable acting. I think it's relatable despite all that, not because of it.
Trois Couleurs: Bleu ("Three Colors: Blue" 1993) - 6/10. So fucking overrated. I'm a total sucker for bleak, depressing life abandonment stories, but this was such weak sauce. I didn't feel shit through the whole thing. Maybe Juliette Binoche is just not hot enough for her fate to touch my cold heart.

The Wolf of Wall Street. (2014) - 8/10
I love the production, direction and story of this movie. Plenty of classic Scorsese work... but the fat dude completely got on my nerves to the point I wanted to choke him the fuck out...made me want to turn it off a couple of times.. hence, I only give it an 8.

And Herschel from the Walking Dead oozes killer cool in his performance as Dick Hickock, one of the two killers.TravisBicklesMohawk wrote:In Cold Blood. 10/10 I've probably ranted about it before on another thread, but I have no problem ranting about it again. American Hustle - 4/10
I just couldn't get into it... fell short of it's hype.
Dallas Buyer's Club - 8/10
My second time watching it... still not seeing an Oscar performance, but the story and direction was excellent.

Sans toit ni loi ("Vagabond" 1985) - 7/10. Quite original film with Sandrine Bonnaire as a French hobo dropout.
Sur la planche ("On the Edge" 2011) - 8/10. Moroccan movie about two poor young women who move to Tangier and get caught up in organized crime to make a living. It's all amateur actors who are for the most part incredible. One's really hot too, if you fancy camel jockeys.

Kill The Golden Goose 10/10
Elliott Hong's seemingly forgotten 1979 martial arts action thriller and cult classic. Senior Grand Master of American Kenpo Ed Parker stars as a killer elite hired to hit a group of witnesses and only one man, Master Bong Soo Han, stands in his way! Also stars Brad von Beltz, Branscombe Richmond and Carol Connors.

I will never stop gushing over this film. Everything about it is just perfect. That speech Robert Blake gives at the end about his dad . . . my jaw drops every time I see it. Just amazing.

Gainsbourg: Vie héroïque ("A Heroic Life" 2010) - 7/10.
A little bit too much fantasy/artsy bullshit in there for my taste, but this is the best cast biopic I've ever seen. The roles of Serge Gainsbourg, Bambou, Juliette Gréco, Jane Birkin, Brigitte Bardot are uncannily close to the real people in both looks and performance (although the women are even a bit hotter). Only France Gall is made look like a blathering idiot who can't sing for shit, which is partly true, but not to this comical degree. I'd rate it higher if meanies would have left her alone of all people!
La môme / La Vie en Rose (2007) - 8/10.
The biopic about Edith Piaf. Could have done with a straighter time line, which might be confusing if you're not familiar with her life's events beforehand, but Marion Cotillard is so awesome it's enjoyable even if you don't know what the fuck's going on at any point.

Four Rooms (1994) - I vaguely recall seeing this in the theater when it was released and being ambivalent about it. 20 years later and I realized that it was awful. Tim Roth's bellhop character was almost annoying to the point that I fast forwarded thru any scene with him in it (pretty much 75% of the movie...never done that with any movie that I have seen Roth in). Minus Ione's boobs, the opening segment with Madonna was awful. Tarantino's acting was more annoying than usual...hard to belive that he and Rodriguez made something quite this un-enjoyable. The studio must have had disposable money to blow? 2/10

I don't remember much about Four Rooms itself, other than liking it on par with Pulp Fiction. But yeah, it's been many years and I was pretty young. Maybe I'd hate it now.
