The first one was a 1 out of 1 for me because the 70's Planet of the Apes are some of the best movies ever! Especially the first two.pieceofme wrote:The first film was about 7 out of 10. It's rare to have quality this elevated across a whole trilogy.EddieVanHeineken wrote: War for the planet of the apes
8.5/10
When I saw the trailer for the first movie years ago with James Franco, I thought it was going to suck. Fast forward 6 years and I have to say, this is one of the best trilogies ever. Each film is really good. Andy serkis as Caesar is phenomenal.
I haven't seen the other two, but I'll watch them on Netflix.

Rogue One ☆☆☆☆
Good flick. I'm glad the Star Wars franchise is back up & running. The CGI of today is spectacular. Amazed they brought Peter Cushing & Carrie Fisher back from the dead.
Hardcore Henry ☆☆☆☆
The first person perspective of the main character was something I've never seen before. It felt like a live action
video game. I don't think it did very well at the box office. Which is a shame. I'd like to see Hardcore Henry 2.

No Country for Old Men - 5/10 - I finally watched it a couple days ago. Loved Javier Bardem's character and the tension of him hunting Josh Brolin. Loved how they recreated the feel of 1980 in Texas. But ultimately the movie felt incomplete for me. Too many loose ends and not showing some of the most pivotal scenes really left me disappointed. Hated the ending too.

Green Room (2015) - 6/10:
I wanted to like this so bad, a horror film about a punk rock band slaying boneheads. But the subculture is nothing but costumes, the characters matter fuck all, nobody's persona has any relevance for their actions. Otherwise the movie's not bad. Worth watching just to see Imogen Poots as a Renee girl with a Chelsea cut. Strangely hot.
One More Time (2015) - 6/10:
Amber Heard as a punk rock musician clashing with Christopher Walken as her washed-up crooner dad. Pretty depressing and also kinda boring if it wasn't for hot bitch galore between Amber and Kelli Garner.
Across the Universe (2007) - -/10:
Evan Rachel Wood in a Vietnam war / Beatles musical. Sounded pretty good. It's rare I can't finish a movie, I'll watch all sorts of crap til the end, but this sucked so hard from the get go I couldn't bring myself to go beyond 20 minutes. The songs are totally butchered and everything looks like a cheap-ass fucking fairytale, worst of the worlds of musical and war movie. It's like Xanadu meets Cadet Kelly or some shit.
Shutter (2004) - 6/10:
Thai horror that's only sort of interesting because it's not US standard fare, although the plot is as played out as it gets.
Berlin Undead (2010) - 4/10:
German Indy horror from a recent hype director. It's not the worst ever, but there's zero reason to watch it.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Actually it got poor ratings for not being historically accurate and for taking liberties just for Christian Martyrdom which has been done for 18 years when it comes to Columbine victims Rachel Scott and Cassie Bernall.

Walk the Line (2005) Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Whiterspoon, Ginnifer Goodwin. For some reasons( not a fan and dont really know Johnny cash ) i had never seen it even if it seems like its on tv every week or so. Wasnt bad even if i only knew 2 songs in the whole movie, Reese was simply amazing 7.5/10

Dunkirk - 5/10
I had high hopes for it but it fell short. Needlessly jumped around, characters that I ultimately didn't care about, scenes that were hard to follow, and dialogue that was hard to decipher (at times). However, it was well-shot, sounded great, and had some really high tension moments that kept my attention.

The movie wasn't about the individual characters or the dialogue. Chris Nolan made it about the experience and didn't want to have some stupid hamfisted narrative with Dunkirk in the background. It's just about the experience and the emotion of it all. If you didn't have any type of visceral or emotional reaction during this movie, you should check your pulse.

Saw Martyrs again for the first time in about 10 years.
Not as bad as I remembered although I didn't remember anything about it except when Lucie gets to the house and the annoying 20 minute peek-a-boo Anna part towards the end.
Think I gave it a 5 last time but I'll give it a 7 this time.

Meh, I'm not the only one that holds this view of the movie. I'm not saying it wasn't a decent movie, it just fell short of expectations. I like Chris Nolan a lot but this movie was at the bottom of his body of work IMO.EddieVanHeineken wrote:Indy_Rob wrote:Dunkirk - 5/10
