Weird Phobias/Fears You All Have

Post by TravisBicklesMohawk »

Driving on the interstate terrifies me.

I guess the combination of high speed and a huge number of cars makes my anxiety go through the roof. Thus, I do not drive on the interstate unless it's only for 5 minutes or less.

Anybody else?

Same here. I haven't driven on an inner city freeway in over 10 years. I'll use an interstate between towns only when necessary, and NEVER IN towns.
Even if you're doing everything right, some idiot can nullify it.
I do NOT trust everyone on the road with high powered motor vehicles, and on freeways, there is no "bail out" or escape route.
I was an avid bicycle rider for 20 years, until I was hit by a driver who wasn't paying attention and ran a red light. I came close to being killed, but rolled through it like a stuntman. The bike was totaled, but I survived with only scrapes and bruises.

I worked for a band who had this in the rider:

"Dinner for 10 people....local specialties (Bar-B-Q, Mexican, etc.)
NO animal organs or insects please."

No weirdness here, just heights in specific circumstances. Planes and cliffs are fine, not a fan of glass elevators, and historic towers which you can walk up and that have stood for centuries are terrifying and will fall whilst I'm climbing them, and/or the wind will sweep me off the top.

No fears or phobias, but my mind sometimes won't shut off, even in the middle of the night. I hate that. I tend to overthink many things and worry about things I cannot control (like my elderly mom). I suppose that's natural. I'm not fond of things that sting, but I'll fucking knock down a paper wasp nest, spray the shit out of it, and beat it to a pulp even if I get stung a couple of times. There is perverse satisfaction in that. My wife is irrationally terrified of heights.

For phobia....lines...and mainly due to feeling that I have to make small talk with people around me. Which leads to me adding small talk to the list. I love conversation, however, a conversation should have a beginning and end. That with a little social anxiety thrown in.

Centipedes give me the fuckng creeps. Spiders, snakes, etc, don't really bother me, not that I'm going to seek them out. But centipedes legit freak me out.

Totally with you on this. Usually it's triggered by a specific event or meeting with a person that makes me uncomfortable though. Rarely without reason unless I'm stressed by life in general.

I'll stupidly read an after-hours email (or something like that) and be revved all night. I'm not very good at compartmentalizing life stuff from work stuff. Life stuff by itself doesn't usually stress me out unless I'm forced to do something I don't want to, like help someone move on my only day off. Add the work shit in, and I think about murdering people.

Fears:
When I travel, I only eat well done hamburgers if I go to a restaurant. I have said that before. Will only drink bottled water or beer. Worried that I will get sick if I eat anything else. I also try not to touch public door handles with my bare hands. When existing a public bathroom, after washing my hands, I use the paper towel to open the door. I usually will pull my sleeve over my hand when opening them or use my wrists. While travelling I absolutely fear being beside a tractor trailer. Our bass player will drive beside them in the right lane while it's in the left highway lane. The whole time I am freaking out because here in the Midwest those big rigs must stay in the right lane unless to pass. Several times we have been in the right lane beside them in the "I can't see you zone" and they hit their right hand turn signal and start coming over. Scares the crap out of me. If I am not driving, I almost can't look out the front window. This is something that has gotten worse over the years. Heights, can't hardly stand them. When flying it's all I can do to keep from thinking I am in metal tube thousands of feet in the air with my feet dangling. I hate shaking hands too. Mainly fist bump if I can, our immediately hit the sanitizer.
no superstitions' but my grandmother was highly superstitious.
bugs don't scare me but WASPS do.

They left about a mile on both sides of the old one for fishing.

Walking over sidewalk grates / plates. It's not like that many people have been electrocuted on them.

Why would you get electrocuted from walking on a grate/plate?

I like to hook 'em up to car batteries and then wet them down.

I was looking for some historical instance I vaguely remember but a dog was killed a few weeks ago

https://www.cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/vide ... tal-plate/

And here is one from 20 years ago, I heard about it a few times like 20-25 years ago, I remember one in Vegas
