Have you ever traded before? What are your goals?
There are different styles of trading (scalping, day trading, swing trading), depending on your goals, how much time you have, etc.

Probably work until 65 at least.
Not much in 401k.
Don’t want to work until I’m 80.
SS not looking great, as far as being able to live comfortably.
7 yr plan.

Prolly the easiest thing to do to get started is get a SP500 index fund like VOO (that's the stock ticker) and put as much as you can into that. Safer than putting it into individual stocks. Dont know what kind of net worth you have, but if it's not a lot, and you have 7 years, you'll wanna save and invest every dollar you can.

Re: Stock market
Solid advice. Unless you have time to actively day trade the markets and watch the support and resistance of a particular volatile stock all day long, an index fund like that would at least have your money doing something.HueyRamone wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 8:24 amVinnieVincentsVag wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 6:30 pmI’m 58 in May.Nate S Axel wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 12:14 pm

I don't know who your brokerage is, but Schwab has stock themes as well: https://www.schwab.com/thematic-investing/themes
Many of them have outperformed the S&P 500 over the last year. Will that continue? Maybe, maybe not, but many of them are seasonal or cyclical in that way. I buy and sell at particular times, when a technical indicator turns around, or when they hit a particular profit target (or stop loss point).
Check Finviz every morning (or when the markets close) to see which sectors are performing the best in whatever time periods you might want to trade or invest: https://finviz.com/groups.ashx
Should you ever start to trade and learn (or want to learn) technical indicators, StockCharts has predefined scans so you can pinpoint stocks that hit a particular indicator or candlestick pattern. Learning candlesticks is a good beginner task so you can understand what a chart is showing you over any time frame.
https://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.scan
Just start looking at charts more often, scanning sectors, etc.

Don't listen to these guys and their sensible advice. Buy Dogecoin and Trump Media stock.

Index funds like VOO are great if you wanna set it and forget it.
