Severance on AppleTV
Anyone into this show?
I'm not going to describe it or ramble if there is no interest, and this thread is dead.
I love it.

IDK, Ted Lasso seemed to have a pretty big following though not my kind of show. IMO, most streaming services are garbage. Netflix tops the heap. Once in a while, something interesting pops up.
It does not.

Best fucking television series on tv in recent memory (previously Succession). It's brilliant in every way. Ben Stiller's Kubrick-like directing. The writing/story, acting, music, art direction - all top notch.Hatchets Molly wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 5:31 am Anyone into this show?

The last show I remember being so excited for and could hardly wait for following weeks episode to drop was when Breaking Bad first aired.
They've said there will only be 4-5 seasons of Severance, then it's done - and they will answer all the questions by the end of series - unlike Lost or the Leftovers or some other shows which left so many things unexplained.) Will have to see how it all plays out - but if the rest of the series is as good as it has been so far, this will probably be an all-time Top10, maybe even Top5 shows for me.
highly recommended - but it does take 2-3 episodes to really start getting into.

Re: Severance on AppleTV
My current favorite show. So bizarre. If you work in an office environment, the aspect of being someone else inside compared to outside resonates (without the weird sci-fi aspect of this show).
Some of the BTS stuff on YouTube is mind blowing. Everything is a detail and means something. Very cinematic series.
Ben and the creator are brilliant, and the cast is top-tier.
And yes, he is saying there aren’t red herrings and dead ends like LOST had aplenty.

First episode was too slow and boring, so I bailed out. Im sure it's as good as people say, but I just couldnt.
So i decided to watch Yellowjackets instead which started with aplomb, and then has just been 1 1/2 seasons of nonsense.

Yep. Totally understand that when it comes to getting into new shows. I've heard so much praise on Ted Lasso, they've won many Emmys, and I happen to like Jason Sudekis. I couldn't watch the first episode all the way through while my wife binged the entire series. Severance is so weird that I can't wait for each episode. Different strokes. Everyone raves about Yellowjackets too. I don't know much about it, and chose not to watch based on uninformed ignorance.HueyRamone wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 1:28 pm First episode was too slow and boring, so I bailed out. i made my wife try watching Severance 3-4 times over the past year before she finally got into it. she thought it was boring and depressing/bleak at first. (she still thinks it's kinda bleak though)

This seems pretty good, and I say that as someone who struggles to get into most modern shows.
Will check out Severance.

Watched a bit of it. Wife watched it all. I also struggle. Before Severance, the last show I really got into was Loudermilk (which we talked about on here before).BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 3:09 pm

Watched the first two eps of this. Does it get better? It’s well shot and the sets and style etc are great, but that’s all so far.

Re: Severance on AppleTV
It got increasingly tense and weird as the show dove deeper into the "lore of Lumon," how the severance procedure affects their two lives, and more is revealed. And they do provide answers to some things while creating more questions. I keep using LOST as a comparison where there was a lot to try to piece together, but LOST intentionally took you into dead ends and a horrible reveal, so everyone was pissed after 6 or 7 seasons of investment.BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 9:12 pm Watched the first two eps of this. It’s a Scientology allegory right? Even the lead looks like Cruise.

Definitely some cultish behaviors in Lumon. Adam Scott has always looked like Adam Scott (Parks and Rec, Step Brothers, Party Down) - but I see where you're coming from.BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 10:35 pm It’s a Scientology allegory right? Even the lead looks like Cruise.

Enjoying it. First season was slow going at first, but really picked up in the second half. Second season has been very good.
Great story telling / directing.
Someone needs to explain why the cars and office technology are all 1980s vintage, but they have cell phones.

Re: Severance on AppleTV
No clear answer to that. It could just be a vibe. Or it could be that the entire town is Lumon/Kier-based, and there is a deliberate reason since even things outside the office are controlled to an extent. It isn't "Truman Show controlled," but the entire region is Kier settled/created.NeonKnite wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 9:03 am Enjoying it. Last night (episode 6) was slower-paced but still moved the season forward. Heading toward the final four episodes hoping it goes nuts.

Wife and I started watching it in the last week and we're definitely intrigued. We finished episode 7 last night. It's so bizarre and keeps us guessing. I've been very careful to not read any spoilers.

Every character is an over-acted, walking cliche. The writing seems really forced. The black chick therapist is especially annoying - everything she says is a fast-paced, snarky joke. No one talks like that. Harrison Ford is really whoring himself out for this show.

Yeah. I don't read or watch any episode breakdowns until after I've watched. I miss so many subtleties the recaps call out. I've never been a TV/movie watcher who picks up on all the easter eggs.

Episode 7 was pretty epic and gave some answers but made the mystery even creepier. I’ll read a couple articles after the show, but stay off Reddit. I’m not interested in fan theories.

This will be my next binge show.
Last week, I finished watching "Lost", and the people on the "Lost" subreddit say that Severance is the next logical step.

Season finale in a week. For a non-action, character-driven show, I’m on the edge of my seat.
I’ve got an odd crush on Helly R/Britt Lower. She’s uniquely beautiful.
