The only thing that's going to stop Trump is a bad Big Mac.
But anyway . . . HOORAY! He's been convicted!!!

I kinda doubt that. Yes, he's ahead in the polls, but it's too damn early to make that call.
Yeah, but this verdict only makes his current MAGA demographic more determined and resolved to vote for him and view him as a martyr/political prisoner, so he probably isn't losing enough voters, either.TravisBicklesMohawk wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 8:09 amI kinda doubt that. Also, Trump's numbers haven't budged since he left office. They've remained about the same which means he's not attracting any more voters.
We'll see . . .

Kinda my point. The MAGA cult's numbers are still likely going to be just enough to give the rest of America a scare come November.Danzig in the Dark wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 10:10 amHe was never going to lose those voters.dmbrocker wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 8:18 amYeah, but this verdict only makes his current MAGA demographic more determined and resolved to vote for him and view him as a martyr/political prisoner, so he probably isn't losing enough voters, either.TravisBicklesMohawk wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 8:09 am

I saw posted elsewhere today that he's never gotten more than 47% of the vote. Discounting another lunar/solar eclipse with blue snow event like 2016, he needs to do better than that to win. A felony conviction isn't the kind of event to move the needle in the right direction.TravisBicklesMohawk wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 4:07 am Trump lost the popular vote in both elections.
In fact, when was the last time a Republican won the popular vote?
Yes, I know, the electoral votes are what counts, but he also lost those votes as well when he ran again Biden.
I'm not giving up on my country just yet . . .
His only hope is to clog up the election process and somehow manage to put it in the hands of the Supreme Court.
We're unique in that he totally fits into the american zeitgeist.Chip Z'Hoy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 3:45 pm Trump is still the favored winner on betting sites. He barely took a hit.
You'd think being a 34x convicted felon would be a factor in a country where a guy lost his Presidential chances by shouting weird, but those days are done.
It's still as grim as it's ever been and any Dems thinking they surf this verdict into an easy win are fools.

Dude, you spend all day every day posting on Metal Sludge and Electric Eye. Who knows where else. Re: point 1, we've just seen it over here - right-wing blowhard and sometime Trump acolyte Nigel Farage has just entered the election arena. All the media is all over him again. He's a serial election loser (to the UK parliament), a privately-educated, multi-millionaire "champion of the common man against the woke elite", who "speaks his mind" (i.e. he attracts the racist vote) and - the main thing - he sells papers / gets viewers / generates clicks. Apologies if this is TenLenny-level mansplaining, but it's not rocket science that the media's business is the media. They're not publicly-funded educators, working for our collective good. They're just lots of different companies. You sell bbqs? You drop the product line that doesn't sell and promote what does. Trump, Farage and the other populists give good soundbites that generate views and BTL discussion - and that's good for the advertisers. Climate change and macro-economics and urban renewal and the health system and all the rest all take time and patience and intelligence and concentration to deal with. Reading is hard, people switch off or click another link, advertisers don't get paid, so most of the media doesn't cover it.Chip Z'Hoy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 7:00 pm Two factors that I think will re-elect Trump:
- Total domination of 24-hour cable news. Whether it's favorable or unfavorable coverage, Trump's message is being broadcast 24 hours a day and when it's not him on television, it's pundits talking about him.
- Culture war buffoonery. "Boo-hoo, I can't be racist in the break room anymore." Dipshits like the Suckits that are terrified of their impending obsolescence, jacking off over a past that never existed.

I’m sure I’d agree with that but I can’t listen to her talk for 12 minutes.Turner Coates wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 6:57 pm Trump's threats and bluster fail to intimidate. Our system is strong.
