Yeah, but this verdict only makes his current MAGA demographic more determined and resolved to vote for him and view him as a martyr/political prisoner, so he probably isn't losing enough voters, either.

When people answer poll questions it's usually a good opportunity for them to make a statement/referendum on the current administration, which is almost always going to be a criticism. It's impossible to criticize Trump as president in the present because he's been out for over 3 years. Voting in a wannabe dictator who also happens to be a rapist, grifter, compulsive liar, idiot, racist, etc. is quite different from just SAYING "I'll take Trump over Biden" to a pollster for effect or to air grievances.

The best thing that can happen is for Trump to be ahead in the polls. Much like in 2020, people will be far more motivated to turn out and vote if the threat is hard to ignore.

I saw posted elsewhere today that he's never gotten more than 47% of the vote. Discounting another lunar/solar eclipse with blue snow event like 2016, he needs to do better than that to win. A felony conviction isn't the kind of event to move the needle in the right direction.

Re: point 1, we've just seen it over here - right-wing blowhard and sometime Trump acolyte Nigel Farage has just entered the election arena. All the media is all over him again. He's a serial election loser (to the UK parliament), a privately-educated, multi-millionaire "champion of the common man against the woke elite", who "speaks his mind" (i.e. he attracts the racist vote) and - the main thing - he sells papers / gets viewers / generates clicks. Apologies if this is TenLenny-level mansplaining, but it's not rocket science that the media's business is the media. They're not publicly-funded educators, working for our collective good. They're just lots of different companies. You sell bbqs? You drop the product line that doesn't sell and promote what does. Trump, Farage and the other populists give good soundbites that generate views and BTL discussion - and that's good for the advertisers. Climate change and macro-economics and urban renewal and the health system and all the rest all take time and patience and intelligence and concentration to deal with. Reading is hard, people switch off or click another link, advertisers don't get paid, so most of the media doesn't cover it.

I saw a quote yesterday from one of the big talk radio station DJs (yes, we still have a few), "why is everyone about Nigel Farage now?" Answer - because YOU are making programmes about him. Starve him of the oxygen of publicity (preferably starve him of oxygen) and plenty of racist fucks will still be racist but they won't get prime time airtime all the time.

Does anybody on the MAGAtard side of things really think it's going to move the needle toward an election win for Trump to openly talk about taking "revenge" on his political rivals? Revenge indicates that there doesn't necessarily have to be any pretense of due process for some imagined transgression. It's weird how nobody on that side of the partisan aisle seems to give a single flying fuck about any ostensible rule of law. In 2024 they think this is all pistols-at-dawn or something.
