The Last Stand. Way more fun than I thought it would be.
He's like the Liberace of bass & pot.

The guys may give you grief for that, but I'm thankful you said it. It confirms that my not watching it was the right call for me. I can't take that stuff anymore.Son_of_Sam_I_Am wrote: For the first time ever in a movie, I cringed and closed my eyes (scissors scene).

No grief from me, that scene is brutal.

La petite voleuse ("The Little Thief" 1988) - 7/10. One of Charlotte Gainsbourg's first big movie roles. You could already tell she was going to become one of the best. The plot itself isn't very exciting, though.
Agreed. There's no big hidden truth to discover for the sophisticated movie buff asshole. I don't think it needs one to be great either. I was actually afraid half-way through that there would be some big revealing ending to piss me off with gay bible shit.Son_of_Sam_I_Am wrote:There were some great themes and subtext. I think, though, that overall there was no real "point".

Have you seen The Science of Sleep? She's in that, also, and I think it's a fantastic film.

Not yet, but I already stole it! I'm always looking for French language movies to learn from, so I'm basically going through all her shit anyway. I hear it's great, so I'll probably save it until I'm through the dumb ones first, though, 'cause they're easier to follow.LouDoo wrote:Have you seen The Science of Sleep? Safe Haven (2013) Julianna Hough and josh duhamel
Guess you can call this one a romantic drama pretty much by the numbers but she's so charming and the ending pulls you in for sure 7.5/10

Paris (2008) - 7/10. Complex drama about a lot of characters having problems with all kinds of shit, among whom Mélanie Laurent is the hottest.

I recently saw this as well. I enjoyed it, and agree about Mélanie.

Just got home from seeing Insidious Chapter 2. Great movie. Really liked it. Ties up the loose ends from the first one really well.

Oblivion - 5/10
Visually it was great looking. But it tried so hard to be a serious Sci-Fi film and just failed horribly. I still am not entirely sure what the hell it was all about.
I'm sure somewhere L. Ron approved.

Source Code - 6/10. Not quite as annoying as The Matrix, as far as pseudo profound Sci-Fi thrillers go, but then again, nothing is. Michelle Monaghan should have been in it more. All the time, really. It should have been just her riding a boring old train without explosions. I'd watch that again.

Vertigo. 8/10
Not perfect because I still don't get the overall plot. Hitchcock's blonde obsession peaked with this film; it was the entire crux of the movie, but it still left me a bit confused as to who was who at the end.
And Kim Novak is utterly gorgeous.

Dom za vesanje ("Time of the Gypsies" 1988) - 11/10
Yugoslavian epic about a gypsy boy's struggle for gypsy stuff. It's impossible to explain what this movie is about, it transcends any genre, it's simply amazing. I didn't even know 80s Bosnia had electricity, let alone the means and leisure to produce the most ambitious and impressive film I ever saw.
It's like a European Goodfellas directed by David Lynch as a tragic fantasy comedy, and that's still a far cry from what's going on there. No matter what you're into, if you ever have 4 1/2 (four and a half!) hours to kill, do yourself a favor and check this shit out.

The World's End - No 1-10 rating. Instead i'll rate it this way. No where near as good of funny as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz.
