What the heck does this even mean? If the 3 hours flew by then how was it too long in hindsight? Are you saying your back hurt the next day from sitting in the theatre too long, or something?
And I ask because, if my above review didn't give it away, I am a total Stan for this movie, so I'm just a bit curious. I agree with you that the time flew by when I was watching it, but I didn't have "hindsight" regrets or anything.
Very good, but missing a little something. Beautiful to look at. The events of the final moments however offer up a haunting contrast. I'm still thinking about the ending.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty - 7/10. I was sure this starred John Cusack, but instead it was Ben Stiller. He wasn't bad in this role. They did a good job updating the story - this is a remake of a 1947 film. If paid product placement in movies pisses you off though, stay away from this one.
The Dallas Buyers Club - 7/10. Story of early AIDS patients trying to get AZT. Matthew McConaughey really owns the part.

fun magic/heist movie 7/10
They say all good boys go to heaven
But bad boys bring heaven to you
Both of these movies were very good and probably crack my top five movies of 2013. Wolf was a little too long and over the top at times, giving American Hustle the slight edge.
In terms of best movies of 2013, I still think Captain Phillips and Prisoners were both the better movies, with American Hustle and Wolf of Wall Street taking third and fourth, knocking Gravity 3D Imax to fifth
Yorgi: Now that buisness is finished, We party. Kolya!!!
Been a while since I posted in this thread!
While over my Christmas Break my niece (OSU) and nephew (WSU) came home to stay with me and we were snowed in and decided the two best movies to watch would be Fargo and Ice Harvest. First time for the college kids, first time in about a decade for the former for me and about five years for the latter. Anyway, 9/10 on both!! Fargo gets all kinds of praise, but Ice Harvest is largely forgotten. I think releasing Ice Harvest during the holiday season and playing the Christmas angle actually did more harm than good. No one took notice. It's a GREAT crime caper/dark comedy.

The Family
not awful, but I had higher expectations. DeNiro doesn't seem to mind being a caricature of himself these days but that doesn't mean I have to like it. The movie is still worth renting though. 6/10

With Al Pacino, Alan Arkin and Christopher Walken.
Funny, predictable but funny! Worth the watch for the one liners.
This film was another Al Pacino disappointment.
The man should have better scripts come his way.
Instead he continues to be fed junk.
It was ok but I did shut it off twice and have to come back to finish it.
Like I said, it was predictable and had a few one liners that were funny.
I also agree that the script was poorly written.
Very good movie. Solid. Stiller gets into contemplative mode and goes for drama mixed with comedy in a more heartfelt vein. Reviews seem to be mixed, but I dug it.
Holy fuck the actors who played the Somalians were scary as shit. Very well done. Tom Hanks is great as usual although his accent made me raise my eyebrow every now and again.
I thought that accent would drive me crazy for 2+ hours, but I got over it after a while.
Hanks is stellar in this, especially at the end. The last scene he's in is like, superb acting.

It did not have to be three hours is what I was trying to say in a very poor way. I watched it again today and I go up to a 9/10. I would not change a thing upon a second viewing.
Saving Mr. Banks - 8/10. Incredible transitions from young to old Travers. Great movie
The Purge 5/10 - Good for a free rental on Redbox
Blackfish - 9/10 - never going to seaworld again. Feel bad not that I took my kids to breakfast with Shamu years ago.
I'm ONCE AGAIN totally jealous of you all who have seen Dallas Buyers Club before me. Can't wait to watch it myself, and reading good reviews only hypes me up more.
Dusted off a DVD from my collection, "The Road to Perdition" from 2002 (3.5 out of 5 stars) A gangster story set in 1931, it is based on a comic book by Max Allen Collins.
The first act is awesome, then the brakes engage and it slows down a lot.... Paul Newman is awesome, and it's cool to see pre-Bond Daniel Craig. Hanks is his usual consummate pro. That guy's really good, but never great, in everything he does. The kid who plays Hanks's son is on MTV's "Teen Wolf" series now.
One thing that stood out was the non-period music. Kind of distracting, but it sets the mood sufficiently I guess.
Interesting to see how "Boardwalk Empire" improved on this style of story.
Disney nature flick. AMAZING cinematography. I thought this was going to be a straight-up documentary. It was more of a children's story, though. That's on ME, so I'm going going to knock it down any stars. Beautiful to watch.
