Severance 9/10 smarter than your average slasher film/dark comedy. for the most part the humor is very subtle but there's a couple of sight gags that literally made me LOL. considering the nature of the movie, they could have easily gone overboard with the blood and violence but they didn't. very well done, in my opinion.

“Hope you life prison food, and penis!”
“How does it feel to ride in a vagina.”

Mentioned the reviews on here to Triumph earlier when I posted and he insisted we go and rent it... after 3 months of me telling him how funny it is, he decides to listen to you punks instead. I know funny, damn it. But, it definitely does not pass Step Brothers. I still watch that at least twice a month when I'm bored. "I just want to roll you into a ball and shove you up my vagina." is the greatest line ever written.

Red White & Blue 9/10 it was really hard to decide how to rate this movie. easily one of the most disturbing ones i've ever seen. the synopsis from netflix:

When aloof bed-hopper Erica takes a job at a hardware store in Austin, she crosses paths with Frankie, a struggling musician, and Nate, a mysterious stranger with an ominous past. But their lives don't intersect in the way you might expect.

just when you think you have it figured out, you don't. when you think "oh, it won't go there" it goes there full speed ahead. the only reason i didn't give it a 10 is the first 30 minutes or so are incredibly tedious to sit through. but if you like dark, gritty movies you really need to see this.

DISAGREED. I loved that this movie had some character development and set itself up in a way that was unlike the typical horror film.

Without that "tedious" first act, it would have been like every torture porn flick out there. I thought it was absolutely crucial to explore the main character so that when shit comes down on her, you feel sorry for her.

Your opinion is totally valid - it's all a matter of taste and I see where you're coming from. For my money, the whole set-up was the best part.

I was more crushed by what happened BEFORE the violent stuff, if anything.

AGREED! I was just telling a Sludger last week to watch this movie because it is surprisingly hilarious.

I finally watched Black Swan. Maybe it was partly due to all the hype, but I was majorly disappointed. I thought it was so corny.

Pretty damn funny movie. I was never a Robert Downey, Jr. fan, but he is excellent in this movie-complete dick and hilarious. The other guy, his act is a little extreme, but still funny as shit.

I'm getting to where I'm more forgiving of terrible movies that happen to have really funny parts. The Other Guys was definitely worth it just for Marky Mark's reactions to Will Ferrell. And there were a million priceless little fucked up lines in there.

i completely agree that those first 30 minutes were necessary to the film. they just seemed so long and drawn out that it felt more like an hour. and yeah, as unlikable as she seemed to be, i did start feeling sorry for her. i kinda felt sorry for all of them in a way.

i don't know that i would have called this torture porn, but the definition of that is pretty subjective i think. all i know is i'll never be able to watch Almost Famous and look at Noah Taylor in the same way again

Right. Even without the backstory, the violence was mostly off-camera. There's one scene towards the end that's really upsetting and the viewer sees almost nothing.

If you liked RW&B, check out the director's other movie, The Living and the Dead. Disturbing but in a completely different way.

"Wet Hot American Summer" - 7/10. That's actually a funny spoof comedy. It starts pretty restrained and ultimately becomes fucking retarded, I didn't see it coming. Soundtrack with shit like Starship and Rick Springfield, awesome.

"Material Girls" - 3/10. I don't know how I can watch this shit, but I love Hilary Duff when she's acting stupid. Without her I'd rate it a negative 10,000.

yeah, that was definitely cringe-worthy and they really didn't show that much.

'Bustin' Loose' starring Richard Pryor (1981). 5.5 out of 10. Not really that funny. Richard Pryor is still kind of likeable in it, but I think it could have been better.

The Fighter. 9/10 Can't believe how great of an actor Marky Mark has become. Christian Bale was great too, I was convinced he was on crack.
Red, White, and Blue. 8/10 reminded me of a good early 70's horror/exploitation film.

Stoic 9/10 saw it listed on netflix and thought it looked good. then i saw Uwe Boll's name all over it (writer, producer, director) and damn near walked away from it. you can't possibly imagine how bad these words taste, but nicely done, Mr Boll. he needs to give up the big screen adaptations of video games and make more movies like this. synopsis from netflix:

Edward Furlong, Shaun Sipos, Sam Levinson and Steffen Mennekes co-star in this sobering psychological drama about three prisoners who torture their cellmate over the course of many long hours, ending in the man's death. But the events leading up to the inmate's crude hanging remain shrouded in shame and mystery. Uwe Boll directs, with a plot based on actual events that occurred in a German prison in 2006.

let's face it, we all know Edward Furlong is batshit crazy, and it works for him in this film. i'd never heard of any of the other actors, but they also nailed their roles. this is one of the more disturbing movies i've ever seen. the only reason i didn't give it a 10 (without giving too much away) is that i call bullshit regarding the supervision of the inmates. beyond that it was brutally realistic. it's not an easy movie to watch, and there is absolutely nothing warm or fuzzy about it.

Motorcycle Diaries- 8/10
Another film that I have been meaning to see for years. Finally found the time courtesy of Sundance Channel yesterday.
Amazing movie. Very interesting to see what sort of person Che was over a brief period of his young adult life. I still want to know why Fidel never called Che, "fuser"
