Re: Rate the last movie you saw
This Must Be the Place, the film where Sean Penn plays a Robert Smith-like retired rockstar. Also has Frances McDormand as his wife Jane, cameos by Judd Hirsch & Harry Dean Stanton, & a score by David Byrne.
My reaction? On the acting front, 10/10. You'd have to mess it up badly to have actors of this caliber do poor work. Penn especially is a revelation; he spends the entire film in whiteface, lipstick & a wild goth-wig, towing a suitcase behind him. If I'd ever forgotten how good an actor he is, this film definitely reminded me. The storyline is, however, a bit more problematic. To describe it as 'meandering' would be a kindness. Cheyenne (Penn's character) flies back to the US to bury his estranged father, then wanders around the country in a rather half-hearted attempt to discover the whereabouts of his father's nemesis, a German concentration camp guard. 6/10 maybe.

Where have I to go now that I've gone too far?

Lawless (2012) starring Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Shia Lebouf, and Gary Oldman.
9/10. Very solid movie. Totally badass too. Knew it was gonna kick ass right at the opening credits. Tom Hardy is great. I have hated Shia Lebouf up to this point, but this was actually a good movie. Gary Oldman was great, but has limited screen time. Guy Pearce plays a very evil villain. Overall, I think I liked this more than The Dark Knight Rises.

Great movie-one of Sean Penn's best. I saw it recently on ON DEMAND.Facedown wrote:Bad Boys (1983) - 8/10
Hadn't seen this one in a long time.
Still holds up.
That was filmed at the reform school that all the bad boys where I lived in the Chicago area were sent to.

Once Bitten-8/10. Hilarious.
The Exorcist-10/10 still pretty good. IFC shows it a lot.

Stake Land - 8 outta 10
Like Zombie Land only without the sense of humour and the creatures are some bizarre Vampire/Zombie hybrid. Even scarier are the post-apocalyptic religious nuts. Good stuff.

Predators - 8
Way better than the AVP films. Also enjoyed it more than Predator 2.
A little too much homage to the first film. Like the Japanese guy letting the other guys go while he battles a predator. And Adrien Brody being shirtless with a flame in his hand and he prepares to battle the predator.
Overall some solid acting, good action, and a lot of fun.

Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father 10/10
Synopsis:
Kurt Kuenne's poignant tribute to his murdered childhood friend, Andrew Bagby, tells the story of a child custody battle between the baby's grieving grandparents and Shirley Turner, Bagby's pregnant ex-girlfriend and suspected killer. Initially, Kuenne made this documentary as a memorial for Andrew's loved ones, but it morphs into an emotional legal odyssey when Turner goes free on bail and is allowed to raise her son.
But the less you know about this movie going in the more your guts will be twisted.
This movie moved me in a way few ever have.

"The movie is a gory free-for-all, a horror film dressed up as an action film, and it's as pure a shot of adrenaline as any Tarantino fan could wish for."
If that's how the new Dredd is going to be the right on.

Ed Gein (with Steve Railsback in the title role) 4/10
What is an amazing story... they totally blew it. The title role is just too goofy, the dead mother telling him to kill etc... more campy and unbelievable than the 2 initial fictionalized portrayals (Texas Chainsaw Massacre & Psycho)

Downfall 10/10
never saw it before, didn't feel like going out tonight, got it out of the library. Didn't think I would ever see a movie scene as chilling as when they put Blondie under until the scene of Frau Goebbels with the children.
