Silver Linings Playbook - 8/10. I feel pretty gay for liking it that much, but I did.

Michael Clayton: 8.5/10
Saw this one on cable once again the other day and was reminded of great of a film this was. I think it was my favorite movie of 2007 and far better than any of the other nominated moves that year in my opinion, including No Country for Old Men, Atonement, Juno and There Will Be Blood.

Prisoners: 7.5/10
A better-than-I-expected thriller with some really good acting all-around.
If they edited this movie down by about 20 minutes, I probably would have given it an 8, but its still very good and probably one of the best movies I've seen all year.
On cable...
This is 40: 4/10
Kept waiting for it to take off and it never did... its one of those movies that just drags on and on and on.
DVD's...
Prince of Darkness (reissue): 7/10
Picked this up last week. One of my favorite John Carpenter movies and a natural precursor to The Thing. The Sean Clark movie locations feature is always a nice touch as well. Good stuff.

Livide ("Livid" 2011) - 5/10.
French horror flick by the makers of À l'intérieur ("Inside"). Thought it had to be good, was wrong. Decent gore, nice creepy look and everything, but story makes no sense whatsoever, there's no punchline, nothing. Pretty gay.

Enough Said
w/James Gandolfini
6/10
I had to pay tribute to the man. I knew the film was not going to be the greatest ever & would follow countless other romantic comedies done by
actors who are not in the same league as James.
Was refreshing to see James in a role that was nothing like his Tony Soprano character.
R.I.P.

No One Lives: 5/10
The premise was a nice spin on an old plotline, but the casting/acting/effects/script were awful. Shame.

Dogs in Space (1986) - 5/10. I thought this was a cult classic or some shit, but I don't give a fuck about Michael Hutchence and it's boring as hell.

The Goonies - 10/10
Saw it again yesterday just for the hell of it. I've probably seen it at least 20 times now. If I just watched it for the first time now, I'd think it was stupid, but man does that movie ever bring back great memories.
I think it's aged pretty well as an adventure tale.
I'm way too obsessed with the movie though. I own two Goonies shirts and when I drove down to Oregon, I convinced my buddies to take a detour to stop at the town it was filmed in (Astoria, Oregon) and scope out the film museum there.

Agreed 100%. Most overrated film of last year.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
I give Silver Linings an 8, and, yeah, J. Lawrence is overrated, but I was pleasantly surprised (impressed, even!) with Bradley Cooper's performance. Like, really. I didn't know he had it in him, but it turns out homeboy is an actor.

What so surprising about John Holmes' package? (I guess it's kinda surprising in a sad way that he couldn't get really get it up near the end of his career because of drugs. that and the AIDS.)LouDoo wrote:Kristi Vanian wrote:Surprise Package - 7/10.

Staying on topic, Wonderland is a decent movie concerning John Holmes and starring Val Kilmer. I watched it like a month or two ago. It's not remarkable, so I can't really remark too much about it, but it was aite.
Boogie Nights is far superior, even though it's more of a Holmes homage.

Paradise - Russel Brand and Julianna Hough. She plays some mormon type never been away from her little religious town. After an accident, she swears off Jesus and runs away to Vegas. It's an interesting movie, really funny in places, very dumb in others. Hough gives a great performance though, she really looks like a scared little rabbit. 7/10.

Gravity (in 3D IMAX): 8/10
The visual effects in this movie alone are worth the price of admission.
You kinda feel like your riding on Space Mountain while watching it.
This is the kinda movie you really need to see in theaters if your gonna see it.

"Rush" - 8/10
Terrific movie. A high-water mark for Ron Howard. Excellently directed, written, acted and shot. Also, Hans Zimmer's score for this is way better than the one he did for "Man of Steel."

Inferno - 5/10. Weakest Argento I've seen so far.
Gone Baby Gone - 8/10. Michelle Monaghan should be in more stuff.
The Hunger Games - 6/10. I didn't realize this was a kids franchise; still, at least it's not Twilight. I wonder how many people confuse this as some anti-socialist message, though.

"Dead Mans Shoes" on Netflix. 8/10
Interesting movie about a mentally challenged boy who is taken advantage of by a group of punks, made to do drugs etc...when his brother gets out of the Army, he gets revenge on these punks.
I liked it, lots of flashback scenes that fill in the pieces of plot.
