I love the Departed. Scorsese's films, to me, are so watchable. I could watch Casino, Goodfellas, or The Departed, on repeat and never get bored. The Wolf Of Wall Street is the same way for me.

Scorsese, Lynch, Bergman, and Kieślowski are filmmakers I can watch endlessly. Tarkovsky, too.

My personal choice for a pretentious, overrated film director would be Tarantino. 8)

Casino is another one that I will watch anytime, anywhere. That one will always be a 10/10 for me.

Picked up this exact version of 'The Warriors' today at Half Priced Books for $7.99. I never did like the Special Edition that came out a few years ago.

Devil Pass on Netflix.

6/10

For the most part decent, but kind of flakes out at the end.

Students go Russia to recreate a fatal mountain hike in search of what happened to the dead hikers.
It was decent paced, it just kind of lost me at the end when it went sci fi.

Escape Plan (2013) - Sly and Arnie. 7/10. As far as these kind of movies go it was pretty well made, good production values and moves smoothly. The script has a couple of large, unbelievable premises, but if you swallow those the rest of the movie will go down like chilled beer.

Don Jon - 8/10. Really deconstructs the misconceptions guys get about sex from watching porn, and a little about the misconceptions girls get about relationships from watching romance movies. Julianne Moore is great. Prolly not a good date movie though!

My Fellow Americans - 9/10. Comedy. Has aged perfectly. James Garner and Jack Lemmon play ex POTUS' who despise each other and yet are forced to go on the run together from the NSA. Half the fun is listening to them insult each other. "Who am I, fuckin' Macgyver?" Highly recommended and I found it free on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KflON-W3ADM

The Hills Have Eyes remake. Don't know why I never gave this a chance. Great kills. Bloody enough. Great fx by Greg Nicotero. Should've gone to see this at the cinema. 7/10

Galaxy of Terror - one of Corman's so bad it's good flicks. Bonus points for Joanie from Happy Days death scene. Sid Haig apparently realized it was so bad that he changed his character to a mute. 5/10

Caught Cap America and Bad Words today...

Cap America was awesome. I'd say it is on equal ground with Avengers but it is more than just a superhero movie. Solid performances all around.
9.5/10

Bad Words I thought was really funny. The little kid was perfect in the movie.
7.5/10

I respectfully disagree. Saw it this morning.

Savages (2012) - an Oliver Stone movie without an overt political skew. Not too bad. And a Travolta film sans weave to boot. 6.5/10. Would have been scored higher has the nudity reflected as such.

"Stealing Home" - 9/10

A little-known gem with Mark Harmon, Jodie Foster and Harold Ramis. Just a really sweet, wistful movie. The only thing that doesn't quite work for me is David Foster's electronic score, but it's not a dealbreaker.

GATSBY. Really PRETTY movie. Costumes, sets, makeup and special effects were dazzling. But DiCaprio in the lead? He's about as sexy as a dirty sock. 7/10

Oh, their managers are in this movie? You don't say...

That certainly sounds like a selling point.

Le concert (2009) - 8/10.

French/Russian movie about a former conductor of the Bolshoi orchestra who had been demoted by Brezhnev for hiring jewish musicians, trying to secretly perform Tchaikovsky's violin concerto in Paris one last time with the old players. It's half comedy, half drama, but all good. Mélanie Laurent is hot in it (doesn't get naked, but plays the violin instead).

Dog Day Afternoon - 7.5/10
Back when filmmakers didn't need many bells and whistles to tell a story. An odd little ditty, but powerful performances. Not my favorite of the 70's classics.

The Grand Budapest Hotel - 6.5/10
It's a beautiful looking film, but the lack of character development left me cold. Moonrise Kingdom was a much better film.
It's hard for me to get used to these changing times. I can remember when the air was clean and sex was dirty.
