Anyone else here a fan of The Movie Channel's "Splatterday Night?" They really dig out some odd ones.

The Longest Day - 7/10.
About D-Day. Pretty much every actor in Hollywood at the time was in this.

Joe-not a big Cage fan, but this was o.k. It was really dark (as in hard to see) in some places and went a little long. The kid actor was pretty good. 6.7/10
Wolf Creek 2- turned it off after the 1st finger was taken off. Just not into these kinda movies anymore. 4/10

Raze (2013) - 6/10. Modern action/horror with old-school exploitation flair. Bunch of women are kidnapped and forced to compete in a tournament of death in between trying to get their shit together. That's pretty much it. The actual fighting drags a bit, but it's really bleak and brutal and gory and somehow just works.

Bus Stop 10/10 Two words . . . Marilyn Monroe. She's simply perfect in this film.

8/10. Cool choregraphed fight scenes. Kind of like Game of Death. Entertaining, but. I enjoyed the sequel more. EVERY ONE of you need to see The Raid 2. It just came out at Red Box, and is hands-down the best action movie I have ever seen.
if you liked that, you have to see the sequel it was friggin awesome.

Boyhood 9.5/10
Richard Linklater's new flick that he filmed over a 12 year period with the same actors, Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke and some unknowns. He's the guy behind Dazed and Confused and the after sunrise movies, and Bernie, among others.
This movie follows a boy growing up from the age of 7-8 to 18-19. It's amazing that they were able to pull this movie off with the same actors. Defintely worth catching if it is in your area. We had to see it in NYC and every show was selling out today.

Thanks for the heads-up. The first one was borderline and I likely would have rented this one too, without the warning. I need camp with my gore anymore or I don't like it.Gazpacho wrote:Wolf Creek 2- turned it off after the 1st finger was taken off. Just not into these kinda movies anymore. 4/10

Need For Speed - 4/10. It's completely stupid, but had a few good race scenes, and some nice cars. For whatever reason I watched it twice in a row.
Brick Mansions - 6/10. Another stupid movie, but it had some good fighting and action sequences. Paul Walkers last movie? Anyway, it's a movie about Detroit, and the crime gets so bad that the Mayor builds a wall around the projects, containing all the crime. I was telling my friend about it, and serious as she could be she asked if it was a documentary. All I could think was 'not yet'.

You might like it, my wife and I were at a secluded cabin for the weekend and we wanted to watch something scary (wrong turn wasn't available) and WCII wasn't it.caroline wrote:Thanks for the heads-up. 50/50 (2011) - 7/10. Drama with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen about cancer. Kinda like Terms of Endearment with a lot of swearing and pot smoking. Pretty good.
I thought the first one was pretty lame already. Neither really gory nor scary, but still too trashy to be considered otherwise entertaining.caroline wrote:Thanks for the heads-up. Mick Taylor had the potential to become a cool character, I thought, but I've read a bunch of reviews and it looks like they blew it. It seems they turned it into a Freddy Krueger/ Hostel hybrid. Bah.

Kevin Bacon plays a retarded adult who makes buddies with a young girl and they go off on adventures.. On Netflix
One thing I learned in this movie is that Kevin Bacon has huge feet.

Bad Milo (2013) - 7/10. Great horror comedy with Ken Marino, who rocks in everything he does. It's about some Gremlins-ish monster living in his ass, coming out to kill people who wrong him. Perfect 80s camp with today's crudeness.
The Uninvited (2009) - 6/10. Horror-thriller remake of some Korean film I haven't seen called A Tale of Two Sisters. Not all-too obvious, though still rather clichéd. Arielle Kebbel and Elizabeth Banks are hot in it.

Blended - Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.
Funniest Sandler movie since Happy Gilmore IMO .
Laughed out loud thru the whole movie.

Tammy - No score (turned it off). It's another road trip movie with Melissa McCarthy. It felt very much like a rip-off of The Guilt Trip (Streisand/Rogen) and the last road trip movie McCarthy did, Identity Thief. What made it bad for me was Susan Sarandon. They had her cast as McCarthys grandmother, and it was just ridiculous. She's not old enough for the role, the wig and shit looked stupid.

They're all based on the same story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Am_Legend_%28novel%29DSAB wrote:Omega Man - starring Charlton Heston. One of those movies I'd heard of but didn't really have an interest in renting. Turned out to be a pretty cool flick, given its age. Very reminiscent of the Vincent Price The Last Man on Earth/Will Smith I Am Legend, movies, only swap out vampires for mutants. 7/10

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013) - 4/10. Ben Stiller trying to be serious and profound. Beautiful scenery, still kind of a shit sandwich.
Friends With Kids (2011) - 3/10. Cliché romantic comedy pretending it's not, with a bunch of otherwise funny people.

Just watched 'Snowpiercer', the critical darling of the moment.
Trailer:
http://youtu.be/nX5PwfEMBM0
3.5 out of 5
Looks great, some cool ideas, but I thought it had some clunky dialog, acting and story at some points.

RoboCop (2014): 5/10
I only watched this because I lost a coin toss, and my expectations were zero. It didn't suck as hard as I'd expected. I think three of the five points came from Samuel L. Jackson. Dude cracks me up.

Rapture-Palooza
Found it by accident on OnDemand. It was the perfect movie for us at the time. We laughed a lot. So I'd give it 9 out of 10 for that.
If I had gone to a theatre, more like a 5/10.
