Unbroken - Brutal to sit through. No plot, just mind numbing torture for the actor and viewer. Easily in the running for the worst movie I've ever wasted time and money on. Don't say you weren't warned. .03/10

Saw 2 films over the w/end:

Welcome to the Jungle - 7/10. Plodded along a little bit, but on occasion LOL funny. My 16 y.o. found it hilarious.
Last Days on Mars - 3/10. B movie at best.

John Wick 7.9 out of 10

Definitely entertaining and funny. Held my attention. Another great comeback role for Keanu.

Lucy w/Scarjo. Pure poppycock but highly entertaining. 7.5 out of 10.

A Most Violent Year - (yawn) wifey and I both nearly fell asleep. Not much of a story here and not much happens. They call it the anti-Godfather I call it the anti-interesting. 4 out of 10.

Inherent Vice - slightly more entertaining than AMVY but talk about convoluted. So many different side stories going on here it's nearly impossible to keep track of. Especially with Joaquin Phoenix mumbling his way through the movie. Extra points for the ex-girlfriend getting naked and giving him a foot job. 6 out of 10...

I reviewed this on the previous page, too. I can't, for the life of me, figure out how this flick is so highly acclaimed. I started getting restless in my seat and checking my phone while watching it. I was bored senseless.

The drums scenes alone are worth the price of admission. Very worthy of winning an Oscar

Best line in this thread.

I saw Foxcatcher. It was pretty great; slow, but in a good way, and Carell and Ruffalo were terrific. 8/10, I'd say.

2/14: Started on Birdman and bailed after an hour. Biggest piece of shit I've tried to watch in years. I guess I'm not Golden Globe/Oscar audience. 1/10

Moved on to American Sniper. I don't get caught up in all the political shit surrounding it. Watched it for pure entertainment value. Cooper gave a solid 7 or 8/10 performance. The movie itself was a 5/10.

Scarlett Johansson goes from party girl to God in this pseudo philosophical, maybe sci-fi, maybe action thriller. The idea behind it is cool (if you can ignore the faulty "we only use 10% of our brains" premise), and Luc Besson is responsible for La Femme Nikita, Leon: The Professional and The Fifth Element, so I was sure this movie wouldn't suck. But all the potential coolness never came together. He got the look right but the execution and storyline were just stupid.
I wanted to like this based on its flawed premise, but okay, I went with it. Would rather have watched Aeon Flux again. Charlize is hotter to me than Scarlet.

EatNails wrote:This Is Where I Leave You - 7/10. Total drama with Jane Fonda, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, and Jason Bateman. Dad dies, dysfunctional family comes home. Nothing new, yet solid enough. Also has Kathryn Hahn in it, but she was practically ignored. Shame, cause I like her a lot.
I've been wanting to check this out.
The book is great, most of his stuff is worth a read. Loved the flick.

Jack the Bear with Danny Devito. 5/5

There's a scene where Danny's character goes off on a racist rant on his TV show... "Niggers? Jews?? Tommybastards... " at which point the producer pulls the plug.

I googled 'Tommy bastards' but nothing. Does anyone know what does it means?
