A couple of Native American films:
Daughter of Dawn 8/10 A silent film made in the 20's with authentic natives as the cast. Story is basic stuff - a silly love triangle involving two braves fighting for the love of the chief's daughter - but it was nice seeing real natives living their day to day lives. And no white people!
Windwalker 9/10 Great film about a dying Indian chief reflecting on his life; his first love, his children, etc., etc. The entire film's dialogue, except for the narration, is in native language, which was surprising considering that it was filmed in 1980. Perfectly cast except for a couple of white people dressed up as Indians, but no matter because they all did a great job playing their parts. And it t takes place in Northern Utah, which was great because I've always thought Indians looked better in the snow. Good stuff!

The Green Inferno - this shit was damn near unwatchable. Best hoax since maybe the Blair Witch Project in terms of notoriety. One decent scene that's viewable in the redband trailer. 1/10

First 30 minutes are a snoozefest.
Once the plane crashes it picks up.
Several scenes after that are FUCKING ABSURD.
Ending is weird and confusing.
The end-credits epilogue made want to dick punch Eli Roth.

I don't want to give it away, but there's a scene involving pot where I was like "Are we doing this? Seriously?"

I had several of those moments, but during that scene I almost cursed out loud. The five other people in the crowd groaned loudly.Chip Z'Hoy wrote:I don't want to give it away, but there's a scene involving pot where I was like "Are we doing this? Seriously?"
When best comment you hear as you are walking out was ..."we'll i guess the cinematography was pretty nice..." at a cannibal horror flick, you know you just watched a dud.

Humongous (1982) 6/10 low budget stalk and slash film. Weird feral kid from a rape grows up on an island and murders stranded twentysomethings. Kinda slow.

Been more than 30yrs since I saw this last but I recall a decent nude scene or two? That's from a kids perspective back then.Midwestmetalgod wrote:Humongous (1982) 6/10 low budget stalk and slash film. Yeah a few good titty scenes. Film was shot rather dark, so the night scenes are hard to see.

Pauline At The Beach (1983)- 7/10- Eric Rohmer film about a group of young (and older) people and their shenanigans on a French beach resort area past tourist season. No ethnic group is more passive-aggressive than the French. One scene shows a girl tell her friend in so many words that he's boring and a loser and that she will never sleep with him, and five minutes later it's a kiss on the cheek and "A plus tard!"
Th Hunger (1983)- 7/10- 80s vampire movie starring Bowie, Catherine Deneuve, and Susan Sarandon. I liked it until the end, which made no sense. Sarandon does a pretty good job of acting like her vagine is on fire when she's talking to Deneuve. This movie is required watching for any female who wants to gain the attention of all the dudes at the bar by making out with the hot girl next to her.
My Tutor (1983)- 5/10- They've been playing the shit out of this on cable the last two months. 1980s sex comedy about some rich kid with a double digit IQ who gets seduced by his hot 40 year old French tutor with big hooters. The dude who is the main character is one of those good looking genetic lottery winners who walks into a bar and girls pay for his drinks. I looked him up on IMDB and he ended up marrying Olivia Newton John. Go figure. Features an early appearance by Crispin Glover.

I Knew It Was You
9/10
Documents the life of the late actor, John Cazale, from his roots in New York City to his memorable performances in five classic movies that defined a generation. Included are clips from Cazale's movies, rarely seen photos, home videos, and candid interviews.
John made 5 movies in his short life and each one of them was a classic. They are all movies that are seen over and over again by movie buffs all over the world.
The interviews in this film were great. Told a great story about John the actor and how much he enjoyed doing a play, just as much as making a movie.

César and Rosalie (1972) - 7/10
Drama about a love triangle between some boring dude, a fantastic Yves Montand who basically carries the film, and a gorgeous Romy Schneider who basically carries my dick.
Jeune & jolie / Young & Beautiful (2013) - 7/10
François Ozon flick about a kind of disturbed teenager who prostitutes herself for no apparent reason. That teenager is Marine Vacth and gets naked all the time. She's not really a teenager, I guess, and anyway she's hotter than fuck.

Culture Club - (2014 BBC) Karma to Calamity 9/10
Had no idea this existed, and while I never owned anything by Culture Club or really listened to their music, there was no escaping the hype and rise of that band in the early 80's. This band documentary is the most damning and absolutely mind blowing portrayal of how much of a piece of shit Boy George is (I already knew he was piece of shit, but this next level) how he behaves, and how he believes the world revolves around him to this day.
Ignore the fact that it's Culture Club, and just watch. I never seen a band documentary that is such an epic train wreck, and if there is one, someone please point me to it. I assume Boy George is now going be continuously sued until the end of time for what he did here.
And the bonus is: The documentary is free on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msINeowNLx0

Pawn Sacrifice. 7/10
Great acting and cast. The story was entertaining as well as the buildup. Tobey Maguire did a great job capturing the manic intensity of Bobby Fischer. Still the movie was not as thorough as the documentary Bobby Fischer Against The World which is a 10/10.

Mad Max Fury Road - 8/10 - Watched it online when it came out and thought it was a good action packed show then forgot about it.
Watched it on PPV yesterday and it sucked me in.
Great action, kick ass characters, perfect cast, good story line. Not much I didn't like about the film. They could have made it a bit longer with less explosions and more script but I don't really have any complaints.
Hardy, Theron and that Kid from X-Men nailed it.

Watched Fear No Evil an 80's Omen ripoff. 5/10, the Antichrist as a tormented teen is rather effeminate and lots of quasi homoeroticism abounds. On par with Nightmare on Elm Street 2. Soundtrack is pretty cool full of punk rock and new wave tunes.

Juan of the Dead (2011) - 7/10.
I'm sick of zombie shit, but this one wasn't your typical horror comedy. Quite political and different. And every time you thing this is getting contrived and boring, there's something super uncorrect happening out of nowhere.
Stone (2010) - 6/10.
De Niro and Ed Norton in a decent prison drama. I'm sure a whole bunch of christian symbolism escapes me, but seeing these two alone is worth your time. De Niro doesn't seem half as washed up as everybody says. He just takes many many shit roles for some reason.
