LadyHawke(1985) Matthew Broderick and Michelle Pfeiffer( who was as close to perfection as a woman could get back then)

Fun movie with a cheesetastic keyboard heavy score done by Alan Parsons 7.5/10

TravisBicklesMohawk wrote:In the Heart of the Sea. 8\10. Great film not deserving of the bad reviews it's getting. Whatever.

Basically, the backstory of Moby Dick with the always grand Hemsworth playing the lead. Very gruesome whale slaughter scene, but no reason to sanitize the act. It was a bloody mess.

Also, movie shows the horror of being stranded on the ocean with no food, water or hope. Won't spoil it, but you can probably guess how this ends. Eat up, everybody!! 8)

Overall, good cast with good performances by all.
This is a case of: GREAT story.... terrible movie.

The acting is not where it needs to be. The accents are ever changing, and the amount of posing and "hero shots" are, quite frankly, amateur.

The effects are inexcusably unrealistic. Not just the whales, but... the sunlight. The quality of light from shot to shot. It's all "off".
Walls of water is hard to create digitally. It always looks weightless and slushy. This movie is no exception.

And then there's the writing. "He's mine! As I live and breathe.... he's mine!"
and "You were born to do this. I was born INTO this!"
It all just feels like "SCREEENPLAAAAY!"

The story really was/is great. That should be all that matters, but.... sadly... it isn't. The other stuff was just too distracting for me.

Crimson Peak 8/10
Much more in line with Hammer films than most of the horror produced, these days. Really great visuals, but fairly predictable. Still thoroughly enjoyable.

Ya know, I liked it a lot when I saw it in the theater but I just don't feel that it really held up all that well. Although it was cool to see that homeboy from Silicon Valley played in that movie and I didn't realize it.

The Loves of Count Iorga, Vampire - which is weirdly known as Count Yorga, Vampire. Robert Quarry isn't the best Dracula styled vamp nor the most interesting. He almost looks like a Steve Ditko cartoon figure come to life. This is like an AIP attempt at making a modern ( at that time) Hammer horror flick. Not Jess Franco awful but really that not good either. 4/10

This will get a bunch of good reviews when it is first released, because people will just be relieved it is better than the prequels. Then when the hype dies down, people will judge it objectively, and it's ratings will be lower.

The Revenant 9/10

The photography is beautiful and amazing. Tons of supposed single takes that are just incredible.

Story is simple and fulfilling. It's a little long, but I really really enjoyed it.

Venus in Furs - worse than normal Franco flick with a bigger budget. Klaus Kinski couldn't save it. The lack of beaver -and Linay -was quite troublesome. Plenty of titties but alas, this is crap. 1/10

Shark Night. An attempt at a modern Jaws. Not bad, actually had some moments where I got a bit tense as I've swam in the waters in FLA where it takes place. 6/10

Star Wars: The Force Awakens 8/10 buries the maligned prequels. Story follows familiar themes in the original trilogy and most of the cast returns. A worthy sequel and sets things up nicely for the forthcoming films.

Agreed.
This is my rating as well, easily the best in the franchise since the original three.
