"A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" - 8.5/10

Fantastic movie. Hanks does a great job getting to the essence of Fred Rogers without being a total copy. I think it's more Matthew Rhys' movie, and he's great as well, along with another famous name who isn't even in the trailers. The movie isn't what you think it is from the trailers, but to the very last moments, it's really pretty illuminating.

"Knives Out" - 8/10

Rian Johnson needed a winner after dividing the "Star Wars" fanbase and he delivers. This one is great, with the standout of a solid ensemble cast being Daniel Craig as a giddy celebrity PI with a southern accent. The movie is a lot of fun and really manages to keep the guessing going all throughout.

I think we have a new classic. De Niro, Pesci, Pacino, Keitel, etc. Scorsese has made an epic movie that stands alongside his other forays into the gangster lifestyle ("Goodfellas," "Casino"). As always, it's violent, reflective and at times hilarious. A must-see.
What were you smoking that made it good enough to be put in the same sentence as either of those? Cuz I need to get some of that shit and watch it again. It was aight, Pacino I thought gave the best performance, De Niro's was a little strange, sometimes that De aging looked great, other times it was just distracting like the scene where he's dealing with the store owner for pushing his kid, His character was supposed to be what 45 years old, but it was obvious that a 70+ year old De Niro was throwing the punches I half expected the supposed 45 year old to keel over after throwing a couple punches. Pesci looked pretty uninterested probably because he actually was, Keitel may as well of not even been in it, same with Paquin. I might watch it again one day but after the first viewing I wouldn't put it anywhere near Any of Scorseses best, Silence was way better and didn't get near the hype that this is getting.

I'm about halfway through The Irishman. After a strong start, I'm struggling with this now. Al Pacino's acting is fucking this thing up.

Ha, yeah that scene was ridiculous. De Niro kicks like a 120-year old.

Yeah it was like that in a few places, where you could just tell that the faces were de aged alright but theres nothing you can do for the body short of a straight up body double, I kind of really prefer just getting a younger actor, imagine if this technology existed in the 70's i imagine they would just plaster on the water front brando on a bodygor godfather part 2 and De Niro doesn't ever get one of his best roles, i think it's ok for small parts, Pacino was de aged too but with him it was hardly noticeable just curious what was it about him do you think is fucking the movie up?

Saw 21 bridges Thanksgiving night. Good action throughout the film, liked the pace. I saw the "twist" coming a mile away but overall fun flick and don't feel like I wasted my money. 8/10

Well, I don't think it's the same type of gangster movie, but that's what makes it great. It's more somber, a movie about the consequences of that lifestyle rather than the loud, boozy, bawdy world of power and decadence that we saw in "Goodfellas" and "Casino." Yes, those two movies were also about comeuppance, but this one focused more on the wreckage of that life in to old age. It was so interesting that Pesci and De Niro had roles that were more subdued. And adding Pacino to the mix was gold and probably long overdue.

But hey, to each his or her own. No one has to love a movie.

"Queen & Slim" - 8/10

Really good movie. The performances are great and the direction and writing have a kind of poetry to it. It's very timely what with all the race-tinged police brutality seen so regularly in America.

"Honey Boy" - 8/10

Another really good flick. Shia LaBeouf basically details a snapshot of his life as a childhood actor with a tough father, with LaBeouf playing his father and Lucas Hedges playing the adult Shia (here named Otis). LaBeouf wrote the movie, too, and gives a great performance which dominates the movie. You kind of gain a little sympathy for LaBeouf's personal issues watching it.

Just watched The Fly (1986). I think it's the perfect fusion of horror and tragedy.

The movie functions as an analogy of sorts to disease in general. The way that a brain tumour or dementia (for example) can just take hold of someone you love and very gradually, and irrevocably change them into a shadow of their former selves, while you have to wait for the inevitable..

I was watching the Irishman the other night, chick wasn't digging it so we switched to A Knight Before Christmas. It was so bad that it was good. Total 80s B-movie type garbage. I was a little bothered by the amount of product placement in it. It was basically a commercial for Christmas gift ideas, but still so jaw droppingly stupid that I couldn't help but not hate it.

"Waves" - 8/10

Powerful drama about a family breaking down and rebuilding. Very well-directed, written and acted. Stylish visuals and a cool score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

A really strong movie. Makes you realize how much the system is set up to protect the wealthy in this country.

Don't feel bad. I didn't like it much either, and I liked Goodfellas, Casino and the rest of the mob sagas. With Scorsese directing DeNiro, Pacino and Pesci, it wasn't going to be horrible. However, it was way too long (story could have been told better in about 2 1/2 hours) and many scenes were just dragged out and boring. I'd probably give it a 5 or 6 also.

"Marriage Story" - 9/10

Pretty fantastic. It's not reinventing movies as we know them or anything, but it has tremendous, raw performances and great writing. Despite not having any experience with either marriage or divorce at any point in my life, I feel like this is probably a pretty authentic depiction. It feels real and at various points it's very tough to watch.

It was pretty fucked especially once the lawyers got involved, I too have never been through divorce but fuck me did Liotta and Derns characters make you loathe divorce lawyers, great job by both btw and alan alda too, surprised how much i liked a movie about divorce.
