This horror/thriller entry has a 98% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes. The reviews are gushingly effusive. But my buddy and I left the theater feeling like maybe this was some smoke and mirrors affair that everyone bought into, like the movie didn't deliver on its very promising start. There are a lot of overly-familiar tropes from the genre, and plenty of exposition in the dialogue and lingering scenes, but there are pockets of dread woven into the characters that are effective. My buddy and I agreed that it's very well-made (which I went with a 6 instead of a 5.5), but it starts to lose steam midway through and left me with a few more questions than answers.

I was hoping I'd like it more. The trailer was fantastic. Still, if you're a fan of the genre, it might be worth examining for yourself.
I agree with this rating. Very promising start, some cool scenes, pretty insane acting, but then it fell apart and wound up pissing me off, so much so that I almost walked out with five minutes to go. Total stupid, bullshit ending!!

I later found out that the Cinemascore rating was a D+. So audience members leaving the theater definitely did not like it. Quite a gulf between audience and critic reactions.

Interesting plot
No rating, unfinished
We're waiting on pins and needles to find out if your buffering problems were worked out. Seriously, why bother telling us any of that? No one cares, just give a quick review when you finished.

Grave / Raw (2016) - 9/10:
This movie is fucking awesome. Story sounded a bit stupid, not that that's unusual for horror movies, but this is on par with the best New French Extremity flicks like In My Skin. I didn't even know Ella Rumpf acted in French. I did know she was hot.

Look Who's Back (2015) - 9/10:
Best media satire since the internet age, and from Germany no less. The premise of Hitler coming back from the dead in nowadays Berlin seems terrible at first, but this is far from a simple comedy. It really exposes modern "conservative" politics for what they are. You don't even know if you're watching a documentary or a scripted movie at times, in a good way. I think it's also on Netflix.

"Incredibles 2" - 9/10

This movie was awesome. I was nervous about whether or not after 14 years Brad Bird and the cast could put together something that was as fun and thrilling as the first one. And they totally delivered. It's got a couple of separate arcs that converge, and both are done tremendously well. Many of the visuals, like cityscapes, and the action sequences, including one that reminded me of the intensity of the Shanghai building fight scene in "Skyfall," are amazingly designed. The latest Pixar short shown before the movie, "Bao" was really sweet, too.

Tag - 7/10.

Hearts Beat Loud - 9/10. Awesome indie about a father/daughter making music just before she goes off to college. By making music I mean they are actually writing and performing music, not having sex. Fantastic performances and really great music.

I still cannot believe these movies are being made. Let’s see . . . dinosaurs go crazy . . .the end. WTF already?

The first one was a masterpiece and should have been the final one.
