Out of all the scandals at the moment, this situation with the FBI and the DOJ memo is the one to really be concerned about (well, Trump still refuses to lay sanctions on Russia, and Congress still refuses to force him to do it, but that's another issue).

Republicans voted to release their internal memo on the DOJ while not allowing the Democrats' memo to see the light of day. Meanwhile, the speculation is that the discrediting of the FBI is an attempt to systematically go one by one down the line of fire until Mueller is fired.

Amid publicity tour, porn star denies affair with Trump

NEW YORK (AP) — Adult film star Stormy Daniels, in the midst of a publicity tour fueled by past allegations of a 2006 sexual relationship with a then-married Donald Trump, said in a statement Tuesday the alleged affair never occurred.

A lawyer for Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, confirmed the statement was authentic but didn’t offer any further details.

The statement comes at a curious time for Clifford, who is scheduled to appear following the president’s State of the Union address on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” In recent weeks she has changed production companies, given a television interview and promoted strip club appearances with a risque play on Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan.

Michael Cohen, Trump’s personal lawyer, has denied there was any affair.

Clifford’s allegation, first made in 2011 and then again a month before the election, went mostly unnoticed until The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that Cohen brokered a $130,000 payment to Clifford to keep her from publicly discussing it.

A week after that report, In Touch magazine printed a 5,000-word interview it conducted with Clifford in 2011 but never published after Cohen threatened the tabloid with a lawsuit, The Associated Press has previously reported.

In that interview, Clifford described a single sexual encounter with Trump in 2006, when he was recently married to his third wife, Melania, as well as a subsequent years-long relationship with the reality TV star. The magazine said it corroborated her account with friends and said she passed a lie detector test.

In her statement Tuesday, Clifford said she wasn’t denying the affair because she was paid “hush money,” but rather “because it never happened.”

Neither Cohen nor Clifford has addressed whether she was paid $130,000, or if so, why.

A publicist didn’t respond to questions about the statement Tuesday.

Since Republican politicians love misdirection, I'm surprised some haven't quietly encouraged people to give untruthful responses about policies and how they would vote, etc. Lull the left-leaning lawmakers and the public at large into a bit more of a sense of false security. It seems like much of how the election strategies are going to be devised through November are going to be based on what people say to pollsters, so why not just scramble the signal?

Good point. This is really why Trump fanatics can't be reasoned with. Anything he does that's incredibly far away from presidential they love. It's the left or the more reasonable people that keep thinking that at some point that base is going to tire of that stuff or finally reach the one comment or situation that makes them go, "Oh, that's just too much. Bye, Donnie." They won't.

As always, it would have been far more surprising if he didn't say that.

We're now settling into this as an observing public; Trump adheres to nonsense, disinformation, lies, conspiracies, delusions and when all that fails, he opts for pure stupidity. It's gone from outrageous to irritating to the new normal. You have to grudgingly give him credit for that. He went into office completely unqualified for the job and has managed to drag everything down to his level.
