To be fair, that's not unusual for a second term presidential race. I don't think anybody with a lick of sense would say that a third party has a chance of even coming close to winning. Depending on who runs, pretty much all the third party has a chance to do is help Trump get re-elected. (It's also telling that we are a mere 4 months out from the election and there is no notable third party candidate appearing on the radar.) Trump's people don't care about real issues, they care about being able to gloat. The democratic side are the ones who have a bit more of a concern about right vs. wrong but can never unite behind one candidate simply for the sake of winning. It bums me out to hear people say they insist on voting third party because it is not only futile, it's destructive. Third party voting would be perfectly understandable in any situation but our current one. Trump has bumbled us into the worst situation any of us have ever lived through by a long shot (if we do live through it).
Given the chance I truly believe he could completely destroy this country over the next four years. The more he divides us and pits us against each other the weaker we become. There are adversaries around the world salivating at the thought of replacing the US as the premier world power. Trump has forced us to relax our vigilance on that front and his instinct to be concerned with his own interests over the country's interests has disaster written all over it.

To people who are against Donald Trump, who think he is an existential threat to humanity, who still think he's a Russian asset despite a $40 million Special Counsel investigation disproving such, then this election is much more than what is being described. I was on this board during the peak of the Iraq War and George W Bush was likened to Hitler, just like Trump is currently. Bush, as if that makes up for a manufactured war that killed half a million people directly and indirectly killed another half million in Syria. There are a ton of people in this country who are disgusted with Donald Trump, both political parties, and the media simultaneously. Millions of people don't vote every year because of this, many of them minorities.
The point is that this election isn't existential. I don't hold a grudge for anyone voting for Joe Biden, or Donald Trump. My concern is over individual issues that are important to me. I rarely post in this thread unless it has to do with foreign policy or civil liberties. So for example I posted about Trump's baseless executive order about Section 230 and social media corporations. Or I post about unfounded NatSec leak nonsense with no evidence like Russia/Taliban bounty hunters.
But just because I criticize X doesn't mean I support Y. And as CliffByford pointed out, I'm not going to be pigeonholed into voting for someone because of hysterical Manichean political fears.

If the election doesn't reflect that the country rejects his kind of tactics (I've harped on this, I know), there will eventually be another president down the line who is more cunning and insidious than Trump, and will take the unethical precedents he is setting far further, possibly in a leftist direction, which will be no less of a step toward all-out domestic conflict.

I don't know if this is addressed to what I said but yes, Trump is stupid and shallow. But his aspirations are his supporters' aspirations. It's no more crystal clear than with this latest issue with NASCAR. Trump is a New York, concrete city-dwelling douche to the bone. He barely knows what NASCAR is and would never rub elbows with anybody in that world. But creating a political divide is his bread and butter. He politicizes a knot in a pull rope, he politicizes simple measures to prevent a pandemic from getting out of control... these are things that make his supporters dig in. He's stupid but he understands that very well. Electing him again puts his supporters in a position of power because he will ride the wave of their desires. it would be far less scary if it were nothing but HIS motivations.
People say that Trump is racist but I'm not even sure that's true. He may have some racist instinct buried in him somewhere but he's actually worse than a racist. He empowers and emboldens racists for his own gain. And his gain is nothing but ego-building. It's terrifying how much of our problems boil down to Trump's narcissism.

That’s the thing that pisses me off the most. As you say, he couldn’t care less about Bubba NASCAR. He couldn’t care less about the confederate flag or “our history.” It’s 100% hollow words. They aren’t his aspirations. He has none. But his base eats it all up like he’s the messiah without ever realizing that it’s entirely baseless, fake, hollow, made-up pandering.
