(CNN) President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced a wave of lame duck pardons, including two for men who pleaded guilty in Robert Mueller's investigation, as well as ones for Republican allies who once served in Congress and military contractors involved in a deadly shooting of Iraqi civilians.

The pardons of former campaign aide George Papadopoulos, former US congressmen Duncan Hunter and Chris Collins, and the four Blackwater guards involved in the Iraq massacre kick off what is expected to be a flurry of pardons and commutations in the coming weeks as Trump concludes his term.

Also included in the batch announced on Tuesday are Alex van der Zwaan, the Dutch lawyer who was sentenced to 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to lying to Mueller investigators; two Border Patrol agents convicted in 2006 of shooting and wounding an unarmed undocumented immigrant and then covering it up; and several people convicted of non-violent drug crimes serving lengthy sentences.

My few remaining right-wing friends are being very noisy about this on FB. It has turned into: "Fuck Nancy Pelosi and her $600 stimulus check".

The same people who apparently support 2 trillion+ in checks are also grousing about the DEMOCRAT spending in the bill, like the $40 million for the Kennedy Center, (which has 750 employees)...which is WHATEVER, but there seems to be no understanding that this was a general spending bill in addition to a covid aid bill.

...and of course...these people advocating for 2 trillion+ in gubbiment checks are the same people who are against anything that smacks of socialism because it is giving people FREE STUFF.

It all seems terribly, terribly dumb.

...like, I'm fine with people being opposed to policies and such, but I would prefer that they were either consistent in their beliefs or were driven to self-realization and the understanding that sometimes shit goes bad for people, and there should be a safety net IN PLACE to help when that happens.

After January 20th, we'll see how much control Donald has over the GOP. If he's got kompromat as Putin may have taught him to get, this could get very interesting. But... let's see if the GOP's monster manages to ruin the party in Georgia's runoffs first.

Paul Manafort Roger Stone, Charles Kushner as well. I think I read that Trump has pardoned 65 people and 60 of them are connected to him personally in some way. I mean damn, this is fucking embarrassing for this country. He's giving these away like they were gifts bestowed to a talk show audience. The pardon power will definitely have to be revised going forward.

Trump not only broke the country (but not irreparably), but he revealed all the loopholes in which corrupt leaders could misuse and abuse the laws. It's clear now that while the Constitution could be manipulated by someone, it only really works well when leaders are honest and have good intentions. And now it's up to those leaders with good intentions to understand that without further tightening of the laws something akin to these last four years could very well happen again.
