I'm hearing that some heavy hitters are now testifying about Trump this week. I believe AG Jeff Rosen gave testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday and his second-in-command Richard Donoghue also did or will be doing so this week.

Sharp commentators who do analysis on the political world have said this actually *is* very bad for Trump. It would be nice to close out the year finally having a realistic hope that the end of Trump's freedom is in sight.

That's true. I guess the difference is just that Donald Trump is not a leader. He had no political experience or skills, and on a personal level he never had the intelligence or the temperament to handle what is (or was until he got it) perhaps the highest political position in the world. As a businessperson he was not a leader either, ending up in bankruptcy five or six times and tanking any venture he ever started, including (typically) money-earners like casinos. The media failed to protect the institution of the presidency when it turned his campaign coverage into a spectacle for ratings and tantalized people looking for something exciting.

It's astounding that it took a once-in-a-century pandemic, aided by two impeachments, to make many people realize, well, enough to tip the balance of the election anyway, that Trump was a disaster and that they'd had enough. But regardless, when you get down to it, his mind is so fucked up that he never had a chance at beating down this pandemic. I think even the important cronies around him would have been willing to handle it the right way, if he had only allowed their help. They're greedy and craven, but they're not psychopaths.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) accused congressional Democrats of having a "herd mentality" and suggested that they all obey Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

Cruz spoke to Fox News' Sean Hannity on Monday about the ongoing requirement for mask-wearing on public transport including airplanes that was put in place by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The senator has previously expressed strong opposition to a mask mandate for airplanes and on Friday he took aim at Democrats on the issue, saying they "obey Chuck Schumer."

"And it's a weird thing, Sean, there is a herd mentality among congressional Democrats that they obey Chuck Schumer and their only answer is 'Sir, yes, sir' and so we filed the bill even - it was the weakened sense of the Senate bill because that's what a Democratic senator suggested he might support and even that not a single Democrat was willing to support."

At yesterday's Trump rally, Donald touted the vaccines and then got booed. First you have to figure out the angle and what's in it for Donald, and I could only conclude that a lot of MAGA people are dying or getting very sick and he needs a support system of donations, applause and possibly voters should he decide to run for office again.

But what does the booing mean? Donald and the MAGA concept are not necessarily the same thing and the base's view of either are ever-changing and wildly inconsistent. Do boos for him mean the audience is going to continue to support him or turn on him?

I think this just shows that the GOP fucked itself. They fed the base lies about COVID and masks and vaccines and now they can't put Pandora back in the box. And think about how many GOP politicians like DeSantis, Abbott and Noem have governed solely based on whatever Trump said or did.

Judge orders pro-Trump attorneys Sidney Powell and Lin Wood to take legal education classes

In a scathing 110-page opinion, a federal judge ordered sanctions against Sidney Powell, Lin Wood, and several other lawyers who filed a lawsuit trying to overturn Michigan's 2020 presidential election results, saying they "engaged in litigation practices" that were "abusive."

"Sanctions are required to deter the filing of future frivolous lawsuits designed primarily to spread the narrative that our election processes are rigged and our democratic institutions cannot be trusted," U.S. District Judge Linda Parker wrote. The judge dismissed their lawsuit in December, and in her Wednesday opinion called the filing "a historic and profound abuse of the judicial process."

Powell and Wood have been among the most outspoken supporters of former President Donald Trump, and Parker wrote that their suit "was never about fraud — it was about undermining the People's faith in our democracy and debasing the judicial process to do so." The lawyers involved in the case, she added, "have scorned their oath, flouted the rules, and attempted to undermine the integrity of the judiciary along the way."

Parker ordered the lawyers to pay the legal fees incurred by the city of Detroit and state of Michigan and attend legal education classes where they will learn about the ethical and legal requirements for filing a lawsuit. The judge has also referred the lawyers to the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission for possible disciplinary action. Powell and Wood did not respond to CNN's requests for comment, but Reuters reports Wood said on social media he "had nothing to do with" the lawsuit and planned to appeal.
